Domaine des Baumard is based in Savennières, a small appellation in the Loire Valley's Anjou region. The domaine produces still wines, sparkling wines, and sweet wines, working primarily with Chenin Blanc, the signature white grape of the Loire Valley, alongside Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc.

Savennières is known for dry to off-dry white wines made from Chenin Blanc, which can age for decades and develop complex mineral and honey-like characteristics. The appellation's schist and slate soils contribute distinctive terroir expression to the wines. The domaine's current portfolio reflects this focus, with multiple Savennières cuvées alongside sweet Quarts de Chaume—a neighboring appellation for botrytized Chenin Blanc—and a Crémant de Loire sparkling wine.

The range includes single-vineyard expressions such as Clos St Yves and Clos du Papillon from Savennières, along with special selections like Trie Spéciale, which indicates hand-selected harvesting. These wines demonstrate the domaine's engagement with the site-specific characteristics of its vineyard holdings across the Loire's white wine heartland.

Savennières is a small appellation located on the north bank of the Loire River in the Anjou region of France's Loire Valley. The appellation covers approximately 145 hectares of vineyard land spread across three communes: Savennières, Bouchemaine, and La Possonnière. It gained AOC status in 1952 and is dedicated exclusively to white wine production.

The vineyards are situated on steep, south-facing slopes composed primarily of volcanic schist and sandstone soils from the Armorican Massif. This geological foundation, combined with the Loire River's moderating influence, creates ideal conditions for Chenin Blanc, the sole permitted grape variety. The continental climate with oceanic influences allows for extended ripening periods, often stretching well into October. Traditional winemaking emphasizes minimal intervention, with many producers allowing natural fermentation and aging wines on lees to develop complexity.

Savennières wines are characterized by their mineral-driven profile and exceptional aging potential. Young wines typically display citrus and green apple notes with pronounced acidity and a distinctive saline quality derived from the schist soils. With age, these wines develop honeyed complexity, dried fruit characteristics, and waxy textures while maintaining their underlying mineral backbone. The combination of Chenin Blanc's natural acidity and the terroir's influence creates wines that can evolve gracefully for decades.
