Chateau Rieussec is a prestigious wine producer located in the Sauternes region of Bordeaux, France. This renowned estate is known for its exceptional sweet white wines, specifically its Sauternes appellation wines.

The history of Chateau Rieussec dates back to the 18th century, when it was originally owned by the Carmelite monks. In the mid-19th century, it was acquired by the renowned Rothschild family, who played a significant role in developing the estate's reputation and quality of wines. In 1984, the property was purchased by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), the owners of the renowned Chateau Lafite Rothschild in Pauillac.

The estate spans over 92 hectares, with 68 hectares dedicated to vineyards. The vineyards are planted with the classic Sauternes grape varieties of Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle. These grapes are carefully selected and handpicked in multiple passes to ensure only the highest quality grapes are used in the production of their wines.

Chateau Rieussec is renowned for its meticulous winemaking process, which involves a combination of traditional and modern techniques. The grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, and then aged in French oak barrels for 16-26 months, depending on the vintage. This allows for the development of complex flavors and aromas, as well as the signature golden color of Sauternes wines.

The terroir of Chateau Rieussec plays a crucial role in the production of their wines. The estate is located in a favorable microclimate with a unique combination of morning mists, warm afternoons, and cool evenings. This creates the perfect conditions for the development of noble rot, a beneficial fungus that concentrates the sugars and flavors in the grapes, giving Sauternes wines their distinctive sweet and honeyed taste.
