Deep brick colour with amber rim. Rich and elegant nose combining aromas of ripe berry fruit with a delicate nuttiness and subtle mellow notes of chocolate, butterscotch and fine oak wood. Smooth and silky on the palate and full of ripe figgy, jammy flavours which persist on the long finish.

Douro

Douro is een wijngebied in het noorden van Portugal dat bekend staat om de productie van versterkte wijnen van hoge kwaliteit. De regio heeft een lange geschiedenis...

Douro is een wijngebied in het noorden van Portugal dat bekend staat om de productie van versterkte wijnen van hoge kwaliteit. De regio heeft een lange geschiedenis van wijnbouw, die teruggaat tot de Romeinse tijd. De Dourovallei wordt gekenmerkt door steile terrasvormige wijngaarden die de bochten van de rivier volgen, waardoor een uniek landschap ontstaat.

De productie van portwijn staat centraal in de Douro-regio. Port is een versterkte wijn die wordt gemaakt door tijdens de gisting brandewijn aan de wijn toe te voegen, waardoor het gistingsproces stopt en er restsuiker in de wijn achterblijft. De wijn wordt vervolgens meerdere jaren gerijpt in eikenhouten vaten, wat resulteert in een rijke, complexe wijn met smaken van gedroogd fruit, noten en specerijen.
