Piemonte occupa la maggior parte del nord-ovest dell'Italia, confinando con la Svizzera a nord e con la Francia a ovest e quasi raggiungendo la costa del Mediterraneo. La sua capitale e città più grande è Torino.

Nel mondo del vino, Piemonte è conosciuto soprattutto per i due giganti del Barolo e del Barbaresco, insieme ad altri popolari vini rossi prodotti da Barbera e Dolcetto, il bianco Gavi e lo spumante Asti.

Ha più DOCG (17) e DOC (42) di qualsiasi altra regione (vedi mappe: zona di Asti, Langhe, Monferrato e nord), ma nessuna IGP. Nel 2016, Piemonte ha prodotto 2,5 milioni di hl (28,3 milioni di casse) di vino, la maggior parte (55%) rosso e l'83% a livello DOP. Le varietà di uve primarie della regione sono Barbera (31%), Moscato (22%), Dolcetto (13%) e Nebbiolo (10%).
