I found the 2019 Tras los Muros quite oaky and creamy after it fermented and matured in 225-, 350- and 500-litre oak barrels for six months with bâtonnage. They released the 2020 vintage before 2019 because they decided to give it one more year in bottle, as the acidity in 2019 was quite high (seven grams). The palate shows better, more vibrant and effervescent but is still marked by the oak flavours.
The 2018 Tras los Muros matured in barrel for six months, and it's the new oak-aged young Albariño signed by Marisol Bueno's daughter Berta García. It has some developed notes of tropical fruit and some creamy oak and spiciness. The palate is quite sharp and also reveals some oak-related flavours.
Rich and intensely concentrated, refreshing with aromas of flowers, fresh fennel, grapefruit, lemon peel, pear, green apple, apricot and peach. The palate has a high intensity of flavours that meet those aromas shown in the nose. It’s gourmand, rich, with a silky texture, round and with a long finish.

Pazo de Señorans was bought in the 1970s by husband and wife team Marisol Bueno and Javier Mareque. They started making wine in 1989 and were the driving force behind the creation of the Rías Baixas DO. Seen as the best winery in Gallicia, and widely regarded as the best white wine produced in Spain, the winery is now in the hands of their four children, Marisol, Vicky, Javier and Santiago.

Interview with Javier Izurieta Romero, Brand Ambassador

As one of the leading producers in Rías Baixas, what for you are the most important factors in producing quality wines?

We try to create wines that reflect the characteristics of the area and the peculiarities of Albariño. Every year we look at how we can improve our vineyard management and harvest techniques, taking special care throughout the process. We work constantly with diverse projects of research and development, and are currently studying how to improve growing Albariño using models based on both remote satellite monitoring of vineyards together with a system of site based sensors.

How would you describe your wines? 

We make honest wines, that give in the mouth what they promise on the nose and that express the maximum quality of each vintage.

Rias-Baixas is a wine region located in the northwest of Spain, specifically in the province of Pontevedra, in the autonomous community of Galicia. This region is known for producing some of the best white wines in Spain, particularly those made from the Albariño grape variety.

The history of winemaking in Rias-Baixas dates back to the 12th century, when monks from the Cistercian order began cultivating vines in the area. However, it wasn't until the 1980s that the region gained recognition for its wines, thanks to the efforts of a group of local winemakers who sought to promote the Albariño grape and the unique terroir of Rias-Baixas.

Today, Rias-Baixas is home to over 180 wineries, many of which are family-owned and operated. The region's vineyards are located close to the Atlantic Ocean, which has a significant influence on the climate and soil. The soils in Rias-Baixas are predominantly granite-based, with some areas also containing slate and sandstone.

In addition to Albariño, Rias-Baixas also produces small quantities of red wines made from the Mencía grape variety. These wines are typically light-bodied and fruity, with a refreshing acidity that makes them a great match for the local cuisine.

Overall, Rias-Baixas is a region that is known for producing high-quality white wines that are perfect for pairing with seafood and other local dishes. The unique terroir of the region, combined with the expertise of its winemakers, has helped to establish Rias-Baixas as one of the top wine regions in Spain.
