Subdued aromas of cassis and Mediterranean scrub emerge from the glass. The firm palate offers sour cherry, tangerine zest and tobacco alongside taut tannins.

A blend of Merlot, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, the Ornellaia 2020 Le Volte dell'Ornellaia shows medium darkness and texture followed by a very primary and fruit-forward bouquet. There is a generous display of cherry, cassis and wild plum. On second nose, this easy and straightforward Tuscan blend reveals hints of spice, cardamon and polished river stone. In a hot vintage like this, the wine comes together nicely and rather effortlessly.

The entry-level 2019 Le Volte dell'Ornellaia is mostly Merlot that is blended with Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. As the text on the back label suggests, the wine aims for a so-called Mediterranean flavor profile that presents the cherry softness of the Merlot against the spice of the Cabernet Sauvignon and the bramble or blue flowers of the Sangiovese. This wine also shows a specifically Italian side, thanks to that food-friendly freshness. I'm thinking pasta with a hearty meat ragù. This vintage is thinner and shorter than I would like to see, but the results are versatile and accessible nonetheless.

Ornellaia, l'un des producteurs les plus emblématiques d'Italie, est situé à Bolgheri, qui est largement considéré comme l'une des régions viticoles les plus intéressantes du pays. Cette partie de la côte toscane bénéficie d'un climat maritime doux et d'un terroir unique, qui, associés au grand soin apporté au vignoble et à la cave, sont la clé de la production de ces vins modernes et élégants.

L'Ornellaia est un assemblage de Cabernet et de Merlot et chaque millésime offre une expression du terroir unique développé en harmonie avec la nature.

Depuis dix ans, Ornellaia collabore avec un artiste contemporain dans le cadre de son projet Vendemmia d'Artista. Chaque année, l'artiste crée une œuvre d'art et une série d'étiquettes en édition limitée en s'inspirant du mot unique choisi par le vigneron pour décrire le caractère du nouveau millésime. Une série de bouteilles en édition limitée est ensuite vendue aux enchères au profit d'une œuvre de bienfaisance.

Comment avez-vous trouvé le millésime 2015 ?

Après l'atypique 2014, le millésime 2015 s'est révélé très régulier, presque " textuel ". Après un hiver normal, pluvieux et doux, le printemps s'est caractérisé par un temps sec et ensoleillé. Le mois de juillet restera dans les mémoires comme particulièrement caniculaire et sec. Heureusement, la pluie est arrivée vers le 10Le mois de juillet restera dans les mémoires comme particulièrement brûlant et sec . Les précipitations abondantes ont permis aux raisins de continuer à mûrir, tout en apportant un temps beaucoup plus frais pendant les phases finales. Ce temps frais et ensoleillé s'est maintenu tout au long des vendanges, nous permettant de vendanger très lentement, alliant une qualité aromatique fraîche et vive à une parfaite maturation phénolique avec des tanins abondants mais soyeux et souples.

C'est un exercice intéressant, mais très simple pour le millésime 2015. Comme les personnes de grand 'Carisma' (Charisme), les vins des grands millésimes savent s'imposer naturellement, sans forcer, leur équilibre leur permettant de briller sans avoir à s'afficher.
