Domaine Weinbach is a family-owned winery located in the heart of Alsace, France. The estate has a rich history dating back to the 17th century when it was founded by Capuchin monks. Today, the winery is run by the Faller family, who have been producing exceptional wines for generations.

Their Riesling is a standout wine, known for its elegance and complexity. The grapes are grown on steep slopes with a mix of granite and limestone soils, which impart a unique minerality to the wine. The Cuvée Theo is a special bottling named after the founder of the estate, Theo Faller. Cathy Faller oversees winemaking at this famously female-led house in Alsace, Cathy, her sister, and mother having taken over when their father Théo died in 1979. Farming organically, they use only estate fruit from vineyards that include top Grand Crus. This is a discreet and yet powerful wine, the nose showing yellow plum and a little confit lemon, even a touch of butteriness before the palate opens just enough to show an expansive sweet fruit profile (with a little residual sugar). It has a limpid texture and a finish where the acid gently insists rather than dominating.

From the clos, the 2019 Riesling Cuvée Théo is very clear and elegant on the pure but aromatic and even slightly flinty nose that exhibits ripe and intense Riesling fruit. Lush and salty-piquant on the palate, this is a round, fresh and pure, crystalline Riesling with remarkable intensity and hidden power and a finely bitter and saline finish. Still young, this 2019 will refine with bottle age.
