Viña Almaviva S.A.

Viña Almaviva S.A. is a renowned wine producer located in the Maipo Valley of Chile. The winery is a joint venture between two prominent wine families, the Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Bordeaux and the Concha y Toro of Chile. This partnership combines the expertise of both families, resulting in exceptional wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Maipo Valley.

The Maipo Valley is one of the most prestigious wine regions in Chile, known for producing high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon, which is the signature grape of Viña Almaviva S.A. The valley is situated between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, creating a microclimate that is ideal for growing grapes. The warm, dry climate and well-drained soils of the Maipo Valley are perfect for producing concentrated, full-bodied wines with intense flavors.

Viña Almaviva S.A. is located in the Puente Alto sub-region of the Maipo Valley, which is considered the best area for producing Cabernet Sauvignon in Chile. The vineyards are situated at high altitudes, ranging from 500 to 700 meters above sea level, which helps to create a wide temperature range and allows the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. This results in wines with great complexity and depth.

The winery follows sustainable practices, using only organic fertilizers and controlling pests and diseases through natural methods. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted to ensure only the best quality fruit is used in their wines. The winemaking process is a combination of traditional and modern techniques, with a focus on preserving the unique character of the grapes and terroir.

Viña Almaviva S.A. produces two main wines, the Almaviva and the EPU. The Almaviva is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, while the EPU is made solely from Cab

Viña Almaviva S.A.

Viña Almaviva is a Chilean wine producer based in the Maipo Valley, formed through a joint venture between Baron Philippe de Rothschild S.A. of Bordeaux and Concha y Toro, one of Chile's largest wine companies. The estate focuses on producing red wine from its vineyards in the Puente Alto subzone of Maipo, an area situated at the foot of the Andes where alluvial soils and a significant diurnal temperature range contribute to structured, age-worthy reds.

The Maipo Valley has long been associated with Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines, and Almaviva works within that tradition while incorporating other Bordeaux varieties alongside Carmenère, a grape that found a second home in Chile after nearly disappearing from France. The combination of Andean influence, well-drained gravelly soils, and a dry Mediterranean-style climate allows for consistent phenolic ripeness while retaining acidity and freshness in the finished wines.

The EPU is Almaviva's second wine, blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Carmenère, and Merlot. It draws from the same estate fruit as the flagship Almaviva bottling and follows a similar Bordeaux-influenced winemaking approach, offering a more accessible entry point into the producer's style while reflecting the character of the Puente Alto terroir.
