Rocca di Montegrossi
Rocca di Montegrossi
Located in the heart of the Chianti Classico region in Tuscany, Rocca di Montegrossi is a renowned wine producer known for its exceptional quality and dedication to traditional winemaking techniques. The estate, which has been in the hands of the Stianti Mascheroni family since the 1950s, is nestled on a hilltop with stunning views of the surrounding vineyards and olive groves.
The winery's philosophy is centered around the concept of terroir, with a focus on showcasing the unique characteristics of the land and grapes in each bottle. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of 350-450 meters above sea level, with a mixture of clay, limestone, and schist soils, providing the perfect conditions for growing Sangiovese, the main grape used in their wines.
Rocca di Montegrossi produces a range of wines, including Chianti Classico, Chianti Classico Riserva, and Gran Selezione. The flagship wine, Chianti Classico Riserva San Marcellino, is a blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and Colorino, aged in French oak barrels for 24 months. This wine consistently receives high scores from top wine critics and has become a benchmark for quality Chianti Classico.
In addition to their red wines, Rocca di Montegrossi also produces a white wine, called Geremia, made from a blend of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. This wine is fermented and aged in French oak barrels, resulting in a complex and elegant wine with a long finish.
The winery's commitment to sustainable and organic farming practices is evident in their wines, which are known for their purity, balance, and elegance. They also use biodynamic methods to enhance the quality of their grapes and preserve the health of the land.

Rocca di Montegrossi
Rocca di Montegrossi is a wine estate located in the Monti in Chianti subzone of Gaiole in Chianti, one of the most historically significant areas within the Chianti Classico DOCG in Tuscany. The estate has long been associated with the Ricasoli-Firidolfi family, descendants of a lineage tied to this corner of Tuscany for centuries. The property sits at elevation in the heart of the Classico zone, where the combination of galestro and alberese soils shapes wines of notable structure and tension.
Chianti Classico DOCG is built predominantly on Sangiovese, the grape that defines central Tuscany. Within the appellation, wines must meet strict varietal and production requirements, and the zone's cooler elevations and stony soils tend to produce Sangiovese with firm acidity, red fruit character, and the capacity for meaningful aging. Rocca di Montegrossi has historically produced both estate Chianti Classico and a single-vineyard expression, San Marcellino, from old vines, alongside a Vin Santo del Chianti Classico made from Malvasia and Trebbiano, wines that reflect a traditional but quality-focused approach to the appellation.
Their Chianti Classico represents a grounded expression of the DOCG, drawing on the character of Gaiole's terrain, which tends toward cooler growing conditions relative to other parts of the zone and imparts a particularly defined mineral quality to the wines.
