Vaya, me equivoquéLocated in the heart of the Médoc region in southwestern France, Chateau De Lamarque is a renowned wine producer with a rich history and a commitment to producing high-quality wines. The estate dates back to the 12th century when it was owned by the Knights Templar, and has since been passed down through various noble families, each contributing to its legacy.
The estate covers 35 hectares of prime vineyards, with the majority dedicated to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc grapes. These grapes thrive in the gravelly soil of the Médoc, which is known for its excellent drainage and ability to retain heat, resulting in optimal ripening conditions for the grapes.
Chateau De Lamarque is classified as a Cru Bourgeois, a designation given to wines that have consistently demonstrated high quality and character. This classification is a testament to the estate's commitment to excellence and its ability to produce exceptional wines year after year.
One of the key factors that sets Chateau De Lamarque apart is its unique terroir. The estate is situated on a hill, providing excellent exposure to the sun and allowing for better air circulation, which helps prevent disease and encourages the grapes to develop their full potential. The vines are also tended to with great care and attention, with sustainable and organic practices being implemented to ensure the health and longevity of the vineyard.
The flagship wine of Chateau De Lamarque is its Grand Vin, a blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with some Merlot and Cabernet Franc. This wine is aged for 18-24 months in French oak barrels, resulting in a complex and elegant wine with layers of dark fruit, spice, and subtle oak notes. The estate also produces a second wine, Chateau De Lamarque La Réserve, which is made from younger vines and offers a more approachable and fruit-forward style.
Chateau De Lamarque's wines have received numerous accolades and awards, cementing its reputation as one of the
Château de Lamarque is a wine estate located in the Haut-Médoc appellation of Bordeaux, France. The château takes its name from the village of Lamarque on the left bank of the Gironde estuary, an area with a long history of viticulture. The estate produces red wines under the Haut-Médoc appellation contrôlée.
Haut-Médoc is one of the broader appellations of the left bank, encompassing several notable communes and a range of terroirs. The region's gravelly soils drain well and provide good heat retention, conditions that favour the ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon and its traditional blending partners. Wines from the appellation tend to display structured tannins, red and dark fruit character, and the capacity for moderate ageing.
The estate works with the classic Bordeaux varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, the same combination that defines left-bank blending across the Médoc. Château de Lamarque also produces a kosher-certified expression of its Haut-Médoc red, made under rabbinical supervision, which broadens its accessibility to observant Jewish consumers without departing from the traditional varietal composition of the region.
