The 2013 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon, which was bottled in June, has a well defined bouquet with flint and light smoky scents with just a hint of quince coming through with aeration. The palate is nicely poised with good weight on the entry, a touch of light honey and mandarin, poised if not persistent on the finish. I would afford this a couple of years in the cellar.
The 2016 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon is already quite expressive, wafting from the glass with pretty aromas of pear, wheat toast, peaches and honeycomb, with citrus top notes on the upper register. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, elegantly textural and pure, with ripe acids and a surprisingly open-knit profile, falling a little short on the finish. This is a delicious bottle of white Burgundy, but it doesn't seem to possess the concentration and cut of a great vintage.

Domaine Leflaive is a renowned wine producer located in the prestigious Puligny-Montrachet region of Burgundy, France. With a rich history dating back to the 18th century, this family-owned estate has established itself as one of the finest producers of white wines in the world.

The Domaine Leflaive estate covers approximately 25 hectares of vineyards, primarily planted with Chardonnay grapes. The Clavoillon vineyard, classified as a Premier Cru, is one of the most prized plots within the estate. The unique terroir of this vineyard, combined with the expertise of the Leflaive family, results in exceptional wines that truly showcase the essence of Puligny-Montrachet.

The style of production at Domaine Leflaive is deeply rooted in tradition and respect for the land. The vineyards are cultivated using organic and biodynamic practices, with a strong emphasis on sustainability. The winemaking process at Domaine Leflaive is meticulous and precise. The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, carefully sorted, and gently pressed to extract the purest juice. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels, where the wines age for a period of 12 to 18 months. This careful aging process allows the wines to develop complexity and depth, while maintaining their freshness and elegance.

The wines produced by Domaine Leflaive are renowned for their purity, intensity, and finesse. The Clavoillon Premier Cru is no exception. This wine displays a beautiful golden color, with aromas of ripe citrus fruits, white flowers, and a hint of minerality. On the palate, it is rich and creamy, with a perfect balance between acidity and richness. The finish is long and lingering, leaving a lasting impression of elegance and sophistication.

Domaine Leflaive's Clavoillon Premier Cru is a versatile wine that pairs well with a wide range of dishes. Its vibrant acidity and complex flavors make it an excellent companion to seafood, particularly shellfish and grilled fish. It also pairs beautifully with poultry, creamy sauces, and soft cheeses.

In conclusion, Domaine Leflaive is a producer that consistently ranks highly in

The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon is lovely, unwinding in the glass with notes of citrus zest and pear mingled with hints of white flowers, bread dough and wheat toast. Medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, with racy acids and a fine-boned, elegant profile, it concludes with a long, saline finish.

Of all the domaine's wines, Leflaive's 2015 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon is arguably the cuvée that has benefited the most from biodynamic viticulture, as what was formerly a rather foursquare, blocky premier cru in the 1990s is now routinely more dynamic and lively. The 2015 opens in the glass with a pretty bouquet of fresh pear, citrus zest, orange blossom and pastry cream. On the palate, the wine is bright, energetic and pure with good depth and a tangy, penetrating finish. While the race is close today, the Clavoillon is holding more in reserve than the domaine's excellent Puligny Village, and its acids are brighter, so this will reward a bit of patience.
The 2014 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon had a slightly muted bouquet: flinty at first, straight-laced with just a touch of dewy green apple. The palate is fresh on the entry with a bright opening and then it hunkers down towards a more stony, precise, flinty finish. Understated perhaps, but there is good length here.
The 2009 Puligny-Montrachet Clavoillons emerges from the glass with plenty of sweet, caressing fruit. I especially like the way this blossoms on the mid-palate, while remaining relatively hushed. This understated Clavoillons impresses for it balance and sheer harmony. The integration of fruit, acidity and structure is terrific. Anticipated maturity: 2012+. Domaine Leflaive is one of the pioneers in biodynamic viticulture in Burgundy. The first experiments began in 1990 and by 1997 all of the vineyards had been converted to biodynamic farming. Winemaker Eric Remy describes the 2009 growing season in considerable detail. The winter was long but mild. The last frost occurred on March 23. Temperatures were normal until the last week of the month, when the weather turned warmer. Flowering began on May 22. The rest of the spring and summer were warm, while a big storm in mid-July dropped 8cm of rain. The rest of the summer was quite warm. The harvest began on September 5, about ten days earlier than normal. Average yields were around 45 hectoliters per hectare. The wines were aged for 12 months in oak followed by 6-8 months in steel. New oak ranged from 10% for the Bourgogne, 15% for the villages, 20% for the premier crus and 25% for the grand crus. The 2009s were bottled between April and June 2011.

Domaine Leflaive, the most famous estate in Puligny-Montrachet, was founded in 1920 by Joseph Leflaive, an engineer in the marine engineering corps who helped to design and create the first French submarine. Following his marriage to Camille Biétrix du Villars, his career took on a different path as he found himself looking after the family vines in Puligny-Montrachet. His sons, Vincent and Jo, made it their aim to bring the Côte de Beaune’s Chardonnay up to the highest rank of excellence.

Under the management of Joseph’s grand-daughter Anne-Claude Leflaive, who was at the helm between 1990 and 2015, the domaine became a leader in Burgundy’s biodynamic movement, with the whole property being converted in 1997.

“Before I had even heard of biodynamism, my instincts told me that whatever we do in our lives must be done with a respect for nature and the environment.” Anne-Claude Leflaive

Now run by her nephew, Brice de La Morandière, the wines of Lefliave continue to startle, delight and astonish all those who are lucky enough to be able to drink them.

Leflaive has 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premier Cru and 5 hectares of Grand Cru sites.

“Anne Claude Leflaive was probably the most indomitable woman winemaker to have lived. Her passion – and occasionally dogma - can in no short measure be held responsible for the rise of biodynamics in vineyard management, the reduction in the use of pesticides in Burgundian farming, and the celebrity of the white wines of Burgundy. When she died in 2015, at tragically only 59 years old, the world of wine shed a tear.” Rod Smith MW

La chardonnay es la uva principal de los vinos blancos de Borgoña, con un 48% de las viñas y un 68% de la producción. La chardonnay aprecia el suelo de marga de Borgoña, que le confiere delicados aromas florales, frutales y minerales y sabores con cuerpo. La aligoté es la segunda uva blanca, con un 6% de producción. {Más información sobre la antigua uva Aligoté en Borgoña.}

Puligny-Montrachet is a small wine appellation located in the Côte de Beaune region of Burgundy, France. The history of winemaking in this area dates back to the Roman times, and the appellation has been producing some of the finest white wines in the world for centuries.

The style of production in Puligny-Montrachet is focused on producing high-quality, elegant white wines that are known for their complexity, depth, and finesse. The appellation is known for its Chardonnay grapes, which are grown on the slopes of the Côte de Beaune, where the soil is rich in limestone and clay.

The grapes grown in Puligny-Montrachet are carefully tended to by skilled winemakers who use traditional methods to produce wines that are true to the terroir of the region. The grapes are hand-harvested and sorted, and then gently pressed to extract the juice. The juice is then fermented in oak barrels, where it undergoes malolactic fermentation to soften the acidity and add complexity to the wine.

The typical wines from Puligny-Montrachet are elegant, complex, and full of character. They are known for their aromas of citrus, white flowers, and honey, and their flavors of ripe fruit, minerals, and oak. The wines are aged in oak barrels for up to 18 months, which gives them a rich, creamy texture and a long, lingering finish.

The most famous wines from Puligny-Montrachet are the Grand Cru wines, which are produced from the best vineyards in the appellation. These wines are known for their exceptional quality and are highly sought after by wine collectors and connoisseurs around the world.

In conclusion, Puligny-Montrachet is a small but highly respected wine appellation that produces some of the finest white wines in the world. The appellation's focus on quality, traditional winemaking methods, and the unique terroir of the region make it a must-visit destination for wine lovers and enthusiasts.
