Mascarello is a renowned wine producer located in the heart of the Piedmont region in Italy. With a rich history dating back several generations, Mascarello has established itself as one of the premier producers of Barolo wines, particularly their esteemed Barolo Monprivato.

The story of Mascarello begins in the late 19th century when the family patriarch, Bartolo Mascarello, first started cultivating vineyards in the village of Monforte d'Alba. Bartolo's passion for winemaking was passed down to his son, Giulio, who continued the family tradition and expanded the vineyards. Today, the Mascarello estate is run by Maria Teresa Mascarello, the granddaughter of Bartolo, who has upheld the family's commitment to producing exceptional wines.

The style of production at Mascarello is deeply rooted in tradition and respect for the land. The vineyards are meticulously cared for, with a focus on organic and sustainable practices. The grapes used to make their wines are exclusively sourced from the Monprivato vineyard, a single cru located in the commune of Castiglione Falletto. This vineyard is known for its unique microclimate and soil composition, which contribute to the distinct character of the wines produced by Mascarello.

The flagship wine of Mascarello is the Barolo Monprivato. Made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, this wine is a true expression of the terroir and the expertise of the winemakers. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted to ensure only the highest quality fruit is used. The fermentation process takes place in large oak casks, allowing for a slow and gentle extraction of flavors and tannins. The wine is then aged in traditional Slavonian oak barrels for several years before being bottled.

Barolo Monprivato is known for its elegance, complexity, and longevity. It exhibits a beautiful garnet color and offers aromas of ripe red fruits, roses, and spices. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with well-integrated tannins and a long, persistent finish. With proper cellaring, Barolo Monprivato can age gracefully for decades, developing additional layers of complexity and nuance.

In addition to their flagship Barolo Monprivato, Mascarello also produces other notable wines, including a Barbera d'Alba

The Giuseppe Mascarello Barolo Monprivato is a beautiful wine that is teeming with energy, depth and electricity. This is a naturally very complex and complete wine, thanks to the extraordinary conditions of this epic growing season. The results are relatable and impactful, the fruit shows power, grace and lots of clearly recognised varietal purity. This edition of Monprivato is fine and sensual with soft berry tones that cede to blue flowers, candied orange peel, fresh mint and earthy rust. The wine's tannins and structure build momentum and staying power. This wine is large in scope and impressive.

Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio is one of the most revered wine producers in the Piedmont region of Italy, particularly renowned for its Barolo wines. The winery was founded in the late 19th century by Giuseppe Mascarello, and today, it is managed by Mauro Mascarello and his son Giuseppe. The Mascarello family has been instrumental in shaping the quality and reputation of Barolo, adhering to traditional winemaking methods that highlight the unique characteristics of the Nebbiolo grape and the specific terroirs of their vineyards.

The estate's most famous vineyard, Monprivato in Castiglione Falletto, is highly esteemed in the wine world. The wines from Monprivato are known for their exceptional purity, complexity, and aging potential, often considered among the finest expressions of single-vineyard Barolo. These wines showcase delicate floral aromas, deep fruit flavors, and a distinct earthy note, all balanced with elegant tannins.

Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio maintains a rigorous standard of viticulture and minimal intervention in the cellar to preserve the natural expression of the vineyards. The winemaking process involves long maceration periods and aging in large, traditional Slavonian oak casks that impart minimal oak flavor while allowing the wine to mature and develop its full character.

The dedication to quality and tradition has earned Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio a prestigious place among Piedmont’s top producers, with wines celebrated for their depth, longevity, and ability to capture the essence of their terroir. This approach has solidified their reputation not just in Italy but globally, making their wines highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts.

Piemonte (Piedmont) occupies most of northwestern Italy, bordering Switzerland in the north and France in the west and almost reaching the Mediterranean coast. Its capital and largest city is Turin (Torino).

In the wine world, Piemonte is best known for the twin titans of Barolo and Barbaresco, along with other popular red wines made from Barbera and Dolcetto, the white Gavi, and sparkling Asti.

It has more DOCGs (17) and DOCs (42) than any other region (see maps: Asti area, Langhe, Monferrato, and northern), but no IGPs. In 2016, Piemonte produced 2.5 million hl (28.3 million cases) of wine, the majority of it (55%) red and 83% at the DOP level. The region’s primary grape varieties are Barbera (31%), Moscato (22%), Dolcetto (13%), and Nebbiolo (10%).

Barolo is a red wine produced in the Piedmont region of Italy. It is made from the Nebbiolo grape, which is known for its high tannins and acidity. Barolo has a long history, dating back to the 19th century when it was first produced in the town of Barolo. Today, it is one of Italy's most famous and prestigious wines.

Barolo is produced using traditional methods, with the grapes being hand-harvested and then fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for a minimum of two years, although some producers age their Barolo for up to five years or more. This extended aging process gives Barolo its characteristic complexity and depth of flavour.

Barolo is known for its rich, full-bodied flavour, with notes of cherry, plum, and leather. It has a high tannin content, which gives it a firm structure and a long finish. Barolo is often described as a "wine for aging", as it can improve in the bottle for many years.

Some of the top Barolo producers include Giacomo Conterno, Bruno Giacosa, and Roberto Voerzio. These producers are known for their commitment to quality and their use of traditional methods. Barolo is also produced in several different appellations, including Barolo, Barbaresco, and Langhe.

Overall, Barolo is a wine that is steeped in history and tradition. Its rich flavour and complex character make it a favourite among wine enthusiasts around the world. Whether you are a seasoned wine connoisseur or a casual drinker, Barolo is a wine that is sure to impress.
