The Quintodecimo 2018 Greco di Tufo Giallo d'Arles is another masterpiece from Luigi Moio, one of the great voices of Campania wine. This release of 33,000 bottles is a beautifully golden wine that shines with honey, peach and poached pear. It is layered and texturally rich with more honey-like sensation on the close, especially in terms of the wine's soft and slightly sweet mouthfeel. Each year, I so look forward to tasting these exciting wines from Quintodecimo and share the sheer happiness they bring me.
The Greco grape is naturally rich in pigments, and when it reaches full maturity, the grape takes on a golden color with amber highlights. That is the inspiration behind the wine's name, which evokes the yellow color so adored by painter Vincent van Gogh in Arles, France. The 2021 Greco di Tufo Giallo d'Arles is smooth, elegant and representative of the enormous white-wine potential found in Campania. The bouquet offers orchard fruit, white rainier cherries and a terpenic note that Luigi Moio goes to great lengths to preserve. There is also a pronounced floral tone of jasmine or tuberose that he says is specific to this vintage. This is an exhilarating wine.
Intensely bright and focused, the 2016 Greco di Tufo Giallo d'Arles shows a zesty but finessed side to this beautiful white variety from Southern Italy. There is hidden complexity here that you only fully become aware of once you've had the opportunity to contemplate the wine in your glass for a few long minutes. Primary aromas of pear and preserved lemon emerge first, but they are followed by delicate notes of crushed oyster shell, zesty ginger and cinnamon. Some 27,666 bottles were produced.

This area is renowned for its white wine made primarily from the Greco grape, a variety believed to have been introduced by the Greeks over two millennia ago. In 2003, the Greco di Tufo was elevated to DOCG status, the highest quality level in the Italian wine classification system, indicating its distinction and adherence to strict production standards.

Greco di Tufo is celebrated for its crisp acidity, mineral complexity, and aromatic profile, featuring notes of pear, apricot, lemon, and a distinctive almond finish that becomes more pronounced as the wine ages. The volcanic soils of the region, rich in sulfur and tuff, impart a unique minerality to the wine, enhancing its freshness and flavor depth.
