Pale to mid lemon yellow. This is one of the riper noses where the pure chiselled white fruit of Chevalier is overlaid by a touch of honeysuckle. Which is not to disparage, because I like this wine very much, there’s a fresher fruit tension behind on the palate as well, and excellent length. It is actually very lovely. Very persistent.
Open and expressive, Sauzet's 2019 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru bursts with notes of citrus oil, white flowers, toasted nuts and ripe apples. Medium to full-bodied, round and charming, it's lively and saline, with an open but precise profile. This appears to be a giving, immediate wine in the making.
A cuvée produced from purchased must, Sauzet's 2018 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru delivers a pretty bouquet of citrus oil, white flowers, fresh peach and clear honey. Full-bodied, ample and incisive, it's beautifully defined, even if it can't match the depth and concentration of the Bâtard and Bienvenues.
Citrus fruits, almonds and buttery notes reveal themselves on the palate with power and elegance. The texture is creamy and caresses the palate with roundness. Our taste buds benefit from the complex and flamboyant finish! A tasting that you won't forget!

Vineyard A plot of 9 hectares including 5 in Chassagne and 4 in Puligny. The Chardonnay vines are thirty years old at an altitude of 250 meters on clayey limestone soils.
Winemaking and aging Aging is done in oak barrels, 50% of which are new. This meticulous aging brings structure, roundness and complexity to this Grand Cru.
The 2016 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru was touched by the frost so that there are just two barrels instead of four. It turns the amp up on the Bâtard-Montrachet with even more expressive, mint-tinged citrus fruit complemented by scents of quince and passion fruit. There is just a slight hint of VA but nothing much. The palate is very well balanced with a ripe, saline entry, good weight in the mouth and a slightly rounded, dense finish that just misses the precision of either the 2014 or 2015, or even the detail of the Bâtard-Montrachet. Let's see how this evolves in bottle because at the moment the Bâtard-Montrachet is a couple of furlongs ahead (at least in barrel).
The 2015 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru has a powerful, almost show-stopping bouquet with intense yellow plum, Mirabelle and grey slate-like aromas that are beautifully defined. The palate is very well balanced, harnessing the richness of the growing season by keeping a tight rein thanks to the terroir. Great depth here, superb acidity and the finish is very complex, with hints of almond and grilled walnut on the persistent finish. This is an impressive Chevalier-Montrachet that represents a very worthy follow-up to the 2014.

Tasted blind, the 2010 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru is developing an attractive bouquet with melted wax, resinous aromas with hints of dried honey and a faint whiff of French patisserie. The palate is showing good depth and vigor, quite spicy with hints of honey and quince showing up towards the second half. It is an extrovert Chevalier-Montrachet for sure, more cocksure than the 2011 perhaps, although it trips over its shoelaces on the finish that does not quite deliver the length to back up its bravado. Still, it is a thoroughly enjoyable grand cru that should give 12-15 years of drinking pleasure. Tasted October 2016.

Etienne Sauzet is een gerenommeerde wijnproducent in de Bourgogne in Frankrijk. Het domein heeft een lange en rijke geschiedenis, die teruggaat tot begin 1900 toen het werd opgericht door Etienne Sauzet zelf. Vandaag wordt het domein gerund door zijn kleindochter, Jeanne Sauzet, die de familietraditie van het produceren van uitzonderlijke wijnen heeft voortgezet.

De productiestijl van Etienne Sauzet is gericht op minimale interventie, waardoor het terroir volledig tot uiting kan komen in de wijnen. Het domein heeft in totaal 10 hectare wijngaarden, verspreid over enkele van de meest prestigieuze appellations in Bourgondië, waaronder Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet en Meursault.

De wijnen van Etienne Sauzet staan bekend om hun elegantie, finesse en complexiteit. Het domein staat vooral bekend om zijn witte wijnen, die gemaakt worden van chardonnaydruiven geteeld op de kalkrijke bodems van Bourgondië. Deze wijnen worden gekenmerkt door hun heldere zuren, mineraliteit en toetsen van citrus- en steenvruchten.

Naast de witte wijnen produceert Etienne- auzet ook een kleine hoeveelheid rode wijn, gemaakt van Pinot Noir-druiven die in dezelfde wijngaarden groeien als de witte druiven. Deze wijnen staan bekend om hun delicate aroma's van rood fruit en hun zijdezachte tannines.

De Franse wijnstreek Bourgondië (ook wel "Bourgogne" genoemd) mag dan klein zijn in omvang, de invloed ervan is enorm in de wereld van de wijn. De complexiteit van Bourgondië kan zelfs een doorgewinterde wijnprof angst inboezemen, maar vrees niet - de regio hoeft maar zo ingewikkeld te zijn als je zelf wilt. Ja, het is de thuisbasis van enkele van de duurste wijnen in het bekende universum, maar er zijn ook smakelijke en betaalbare wijnen.

Belangrijkste druiven:

Pinot noir komt oorspronkelijk uit de Bourgogne en deze wijnstokken bedekken 34% van de regio, goed voor 29% van de totale wijnproductie. De rode druif doet het uitstekend op kalk- en kleigrond, wat bijdraagt aan de complexiteit. Pinot noir wijnen uit Bourgondië variëren in kleur van kers tot baksteen, hebben een lichte body en hebben meestal rood fruit en kruidige smaken. Gamay is een rode druif die ook aangeplant staat in Bourgondië, maar slechts 10% van de wijnstokken bestaat uit gamay.

Chardonnay is de belangrijkste druif voor witte wijnen in Bourgondië, goed voor 48% van de wijnstokken en 68% van de productie. Chardonnay houdt van de mergelbodem van Bourgondië, die zorgt voor delicate bloemen-, fruit- en mineraalaroma's en een volle smaak.
