Dog Point - Sauvignon Blanc

Experience the refreshing taste of Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc, a wine that perfectly captures the essence of Marlborough, New Zealand. With its vibrant acidity and crisp finish, this wine is perfect for any occasion.

At Dog Point, we take pride in our sustainable farming practices and our commitment to producing high-quality wines. Our Sauvignon Blanc is made from grapes grown in our own vineyards, which are carefully tended to by our experienced team of viticulturists.

The taste profile of our Sauvignon Blanc is characterized by its bright citrus and tropical fruit notes, with a hint of minerality that adds complexity to the wine. On the palate, it is crisp and refreshing, with a long, lingering finish that leaves a pleasant aftertaste.

Our Sauvignon Blanc is perfect for pairing with seafood, salads, and light pasta dishes. It is also a great wine to enjoy on its own, whether you're relaxing at home or entertaining guests.

So why not try Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc today and experience the taste of Marlborough for yourself?

Perhaps the most complex regular Savvy I can recall from Dog Point, the 2019 Sauvignon Blanc offers up aromas that range from subtle notions of garden peas to melon, nectarine and pink grapefruit. It's medium-bodied and silky in texture, generous yet crisp, with a focused, slightly chalky and deliciously lingering finish.
Handpicked fruit is whole bunch pressed and cold settled before fermentation. A portion of this wine is fermented using indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged for 4 months in stainless steel tanks then bottled without fining. Colour Pale straw. Aroma Bright, fresh, citrus characters predominate with subtle, riper tones of tropical fruit as well as jasmine and orange blossom details in the background. Palate A crunchy palate bursting with pure grapefruit with juicy tropical fruit, saline texture and crisp, refreshing acidity. The low yields have meant generous concentration and a lengthy finish. Cellaring Drinks beautifully now or can comfortably be cellared for five years or more.
The 2018 Sauvignon Blanc is on the tropical end of the spectrum, with hints of guava, pineapple and nectarine—a real fruit bowl. It's medium-bodied and silky in texture, with a long, flavorful finish.

Marlborough is blessed with one of the sunniest and driest climates in New Zealand. With easterly sea breezes and a long autumn, this region provides the perfect conditions for long slow ripening fruit. Home to New Zealand’s best Sauvignon Blanc and home to Dog Point.

Ivan Sutherland and James Healy, the former chief viticulturist and head winemaker of Cloudy Bay, began Dog point in 2002. As owners they have an incredible hands on approach to their wines - from in the vineyard, handpicking the grapes, to carrying out all the winery work. They apply old world philosophies and new world technology to produce wines true to their region.

“Our philosophy is to produce regionally distinctive wines that will drink well now and age gracefully for many years.” James Healy, Winemaker

Interview with Ivan Sutherland, Owner

What has been the most important moment in the history of Dog Point Vineyards?

It has to be when we decided to make wine under our own label in 2002.  The vineyard was already there as Dog Point.

What is you favourite food pairing with Section 94?

Enjoyed with a huge range of cuisine........seafood, Asian dishes, white meats, pasta. Most memorable probably an entrée with lunch that had fresh asparagus picked that morning infused with goats cheese matched to 2008 Section 94.

Marlborough is a wine region located in the northeast of the South Island of New Zealand. It is known for producing some of the world's best Sauvignon Blanc wines. The region has a cool climate with a long growing season, which allows the grapes to ripen slowly and develop complex flavors.

The history of winemaking in Marlborough dates back to the 1970s when the first commercial vineyards were planted. Since then, the region has grown rapidly, and today it is home to over 150 wineries.

The style of production in Marlborough is focused on Sauvignon Blanc, which accounts for over 80% of the region's wine production. The wines are known for their intense aromas of tropical fruits, citrus, and grassy notes. The region also produces some excellent Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Riesling wines.

Marlborough's winemakers are committed to sustainable and organic farming practices, which help to preserve the region's unique terroir. The soils in Marlborough are predominantly alluvial, with a mix of gravel, sand, and clay. This soil type, combined with the cool climate, produces wines with a distinctive minerality and acidity.

Overall, Marlborough is a must-visit destination for wine lovers who appreciate the crisp, refreshing style of Sauvignon Blanc. The region's commitment to sustainable farming practices and its unique terroir make it a top producer of high-quality wines that are enjoyed around the world.
