The 2014 The Steading has a pale to medium garnet colour and gives relatively understated dried mulberry, preserved plums and Chinese five spice notes with hints of black pepper, earth and dried herbs. Full-bodied, with plenty of spicy expressiveness to match the dried berry and earthy flavours, it is rich and supple with a long pepper-laced finish.
Ripe, round and supple, Torbreck's 2018 The Steading is foudre aged, so the oak signature is minimal. Mixed cherries and berries abound, mixing in hints of caramel, plus more savory notes of dried herbs, espresso and black olives. Medium to full-bodied, it's soft and easy to drink, but it has enough concentration to drink well for several more years.
The 2021 The Steading is incredibly sweet on the nose: summer raspberries, blood plums, black cherry, licorice, star anise, some cardamom and chewing tobacco. This is reliable, delicious, complex, plush/generous and, through the lens of this lovely cool vintage, a superstar. The best yet.

Torbreck is an Australian winery on the western ridge of the Barossa Valley at Marananga. Founded by David Powell in 1994, the famous vineyard was named after a forest in Scotland where he spent time as a lumberjack. He honed his oenological skills at Rockford, the celebrated Barossa winery.

Year after year David has refined the style of his wines, remaining faithful to his inspiration of the Rhône valley, perfecting his yield of Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro. The aim was to build one of the finest wine estates in the world and his vision was accomplished when the winery was named one of the World’s top 100 Wine Estates by Robert Parker.

“Every now and then, in life and in wine, we are presented with unique opportunities to express ourselves and create something truly remarkable. When these rare opportunities arise, we need to capture, nurture and develop them so that their potential is fulfilled.” Craig Isbel, Senior Winemaker

Barossa Valley is a renowned wine region located in South Australia. The region has a rich history of winemaking dating back to the mid-19th century when German settlers first established vineyards in the area. Today, Barossa Valley is known for producing some of the world's finest Shiraz wines, as well as other varietals such as Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay.

The style of production in Barossa Valley is heavily influenced by the region's warm climate and unique terroir. The vineyards are situated on a range of soil types, including red-brown earth, sandy loam, and clay, which contribute to the complexity and character of the wines. The winemakers in Barossa Valley are known for their traditional winemaking techniques, including open fermentation and basket pressing, which help to preserve the natural flavours and aromas of the grapes.

Barossa Valley is home to a number of renowned wine producers, including Penfolds, Henschke, and Yalumba. Penfolds is perhaps the most famous of these, with a history dating back to 1844. The winery is known for its iconic Grange Shiraz, which is considered one of Australia's greatest wines. Henschke is another notable producer, with a history dating back to 1868. The winery is known for its Hill of Grace Shiraz, which is made from grapes grown on a single vineyard site and is considered one of Australia's most collectible wines. Yalumba is also a well-respected producer, with a history dating back to 1849. The winery is known for its range of premium wines, including the Signature Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz blend.

Overall, Barossa Valley is a must-visit destination for wine lovers, offering a unique blend of history, tradition, and innovation. Whether you're a fan of full-bodied Shiraz or elegant Chardonnay, there's something for everyone in this iconic wine region.
