Torbreck's 2018 RunRig needs a bit of air right now, as the nose and palate truly open up and expand after a while in the glass. Unlike some vintages, it's rather tight and cedary upon first pour, then relaxes to reveal hints of stone fruit, blueberries, cherries, pastry crust and baking spices. In the mouth, it's full-bodied and concentrated, richly textured and marked by ripe tannins, which leave behind a velvety, mouth-coating finish tinged with licorice and dark berries. While approachable now—and even damn enjoyable—it deserves another several years in the cellar.
With enormously appealing aromas of grilled fruit, savoury complexities and rich, velvety tannins. Of course, it's full-bodied and concentrated, with the stuffing to age for up to a couple of decades, and it has a long, liquorice tinged finish.

Torbreck is a renowned winery located in the Barossa Valley of South Australia. The winery was founded in 1994 by David Powell, who had a passion for making wines that reflected the unique terroir of the region. The winery is named after a forest in Scotland where Powell spent his childhood.

One of the most popular wines produced by Torbreck is the Runrig Shiraz Viognier. This wine is a blend of Shiraz and Viognier grapes, which are grown in the Barossa Valley. The Shiraz grapes provide the wine with its rich, full-bodied flavour, while the Viognier grapes add a floral aroma and a touch of acidity.

The grapes used to make the Runrig Shiraz Viognier are handpicked and carefully selected to ensure only the best grapes are used. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels for up to 30 months, which gives it a complex flavour profile and a smooth finish.

The Runrig Shiraz Viognier is a wine that is meant to be enjoyed with food. It pairs well with grilled meats, roasted vegetables, and hearty stews. It is also a wine that can be aged for several years, allowing the flavours to develop and become more complex over time.

Overall, the Runrig Shiraz Viognier is a wine that is highly sought after by wine enthusiasts around the world. Its unique blend of Shiraz and Viognier grapes, combined with its careful production process, make it a wine that is truly one of a kind.

Torbreck is an Australian winery on the western ridge of the Barossa Valley at Marananga. Founded by David Powell in 1994, the famous vineyard was named after a forest in Scotland where he spent time as a lumberjack. He honed his oenological skills at Rockford, the celebrated Barossa winery.

Year after year David has refined the style of his wines, remaining faithful to his inspiration of the Rhône valley, perfecting his yield of Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro. The aim was to build one of the finest wine estates in the world and his vision was accomplished when the winery was named one of the World’s top 100 Wine Estates by Robert Parker.

“Every now and then, in life and in wine, we are presented with unique opportunities to express ourselves and create something truly remarkable. When these rare opportunities arise, we need to capture, nurture and develop them so that their potential is fulfilled.” Craig Isbel, Senior Winemaker
