Villa Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva 2021 is rubyred in color. The nose opens with fresh notes of pomegranates,cherriesand orange peelsaccompanied bylight spicy hints of ginger. Floral undertones complete the bouquet with accents of lavender, rose petalsand delicate balsamic notes of white musk. A vertical entry on the palate leads to a savoryand flavorful structure while supple tanninsaccompanyan intense and expansive finish with warm notes of cocoa.
This medium-bodied red opens with aromas of menthol, ripe plum, violet and tobacco. The elegantly structured palate offers tart red cherry, star anise and coffee bean accompanied by polished, fine-grained tannins.
Here's an interesting bit of news. This wine is a blend of fruit from four villages in Chianti Classico. However, those single vineyards will soon be bottled as their own distinct Gran Selezione wines. For now, we have the 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva Villa Antinori.
This was a productive vintage that resulted in good yields thanks to abundant rainfall at the beginning of the season. The wine's tension and firmness remind me of the classic 2016 vintage, but 2019 ultimately shows more richness and accessibility. This wine is layered with dark fruit, crushed stone, and pretty spice.
This informal wine is based on Sangiovese but has other complementary red grapes in the blend and sees its fruit sourced from various parts of Tuscany. The 2018 Villa Antinori shows some ripeness and sweetness with an accessible and open-knit quality of fruit. The wine's aromas of dark cherry and blackberry would stand up nicely to a classic Tuscan dish of pappardelle al ragù di cinghiale (ribbon pasta with wild boar sauce) thanks to the natural acidity and freshness inherent to this wine.
The 2012 Chianti Classico Riserva Villa Antinori is Sangiovese that has been enhanced by small percentages of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Fruit is sourced from the various properties owned by the Antinori family in the Chianti Classico appellation such as Badia a Passignano, Tenuta Tignanello and Peppoli. The family just bought a new property called San Sano near Castello di Ama and some of that fruit was used here too. This wine shows very nice ripeness with luscious, dark fruit flavors backed by spice and leather.
