Bernabeleva

Bernabeleva is a Spanish winery located in the Madrid region, producing wines from local grape varieties in one of Spain's lesser-known but historically significant wine areas. The Madrid appellation, which gained DO status in 1990, encompasses vineyards around the Spanish capital and represents a revival of winemaking traditions that date back centuries in this central Iberian plateau.

The Madrid wine region is characterized by its continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold winters, along with sandy soils that drain well and stress the vines appropriately. The area is particularly known for preserving indigenous grape varieties that have adapted to the harsh climate conditions. Vineyards here typically sit at elevations between 500-800 meters, which helps maintain acidity in the grapes despite the intense summer heat.

Bernabeleva works with traditional white grape varieties including Albillo and Macabeo, as evidenced by their Navaherreros Blanco bottling. Albillo is an ancient variety native to central Spain that produces aromatic, mineral-driven wines, while Macabeo adds structure and body to blends. These varieties represent the authentic expression of Madrid's winemaking heritage.
