Located in the heart of the Fronsac appellation in the Bordeaux region of France, the Château de Pitray is a prestigious wine producer that has been producing exceptional wines for over 300 years. With its stunning 18th century château and sprawling vineyards, the estate is a true representation of the grandeur and history of the Bordeaux wine region.
The Château de Pitray is situated on the right bank of the Dordogne river, in the commune of Saint-Germain-de-la-Rivière. The estate spans over 120 hectares, of which 40 hectares are dedicated to vineyards. The remaining land is covered by forests, meadows, and gardens, creating a serene and picturesque landscape. The vineyards are planted with a variety of grape varietals, including Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon, which thrive in the clay and limestone soils of the Fronsac appellation.
The Fronsac appellation is known for producing some of the finest wines in Bordeaux, and the Château de Pitray is no exception. The estate's wines are known for their elegance, complexity, and balance, which are a result of the perfect combination of terroir, climate, and winemaking techniques. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected before undergoing traditional vinification methods, followed by aging in French oak barrels for 12-18 months. This meticulous approach to winemaking results in wines that are full-bodied, rich, and have a long aging potential.
The flagship wine of the Château de Pitray is the Grand Vin, a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, which represents the estate's best terroir and winemaking practices. It is a well-structured and elegant wine with aromas of red fruits, spices, and a hint of vanilla. The estate also produces a second wine, the Château de Pitray Cuvée
