Informed by the oldest historical blend of all lieux-dits, dating back to 1994, the NV Blanc de Noirs Aÿ La Côte Faron based on the 2017 vintage was disgorged in February 2024 with 1.5 grams per liter dosage. From a single southwest-facing Pinot Noir vineyard in Aÿ-Champagne, defined by hot daytime sun and refreshed by occasional winds (hence its former name, Contraste), it is one of the richest, more demonstrative wines in the range. Exploding from the glass with notes of honeysuckle, candied lemon zest, warm spices and dried fruit, it’s a highly aromatic, enveloping wine with succulent acidity. Despite its immediate expressiveness, it’s a seriously structured wine that can withstand the test of time. Full-bodied and defined by the high maturity imparted by the site, it is more demonstrative out of the gates than Le Bout du Clos. This is a superb wine that transcends the challenges of the base vintage.

Jacques Selosse is a renowned Champagne producer based in the village of Avize in the Côte des Blancs region of France. The Selosse family has been producing Champagne since the early 20th century, but it was Jacques Selosse who revolutionized the industry in the 1980s by introducing a new style of Champagne that emphasized terroir and minimal intervention winemaking.

Selosse's Champagnes are made from Chardonnay grapes grown in the family's vineyards, which are located in some of the most prestigious terroirs in the region. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted to ensure only the highest quality fruit is used. Selosse uses a unique winemaking process that involves fermenting the wine in oak barrels and aging it on the lees for an extended period of time. This results in Champagnes that are rich, complex, and full of character.

Selosse produces a range of Champagnes, including the flagship Substance, which is made from a blend of Chardonnay grapes from four different vineyards. This Champagne is aged for a minimum of six years and is known for its intense minerality and depth of flavor. Selosse also produces a range of single vineyard Champagnes, each of which showcases the unique terroir of the vineyard.

Overall, Jacques Selosse is a producer that is highly regarded by wine enthusiasts and critics alike. Their Champagnes are some of the most sought-after in the world, and their commitment to quality and terroir-driven winemaking has set a new standard for the industry.

In 1668, Dom Pérignon is said to have discovered how to make sparkling wine; today his technique is used the world over, although Champagne continues to make some of the finest. France’s most northerly wine region, Champagne is now home to 15,000 growers and 290 ‘houses’. A blend of grape varieties is usually required: white Chardonnay to add fruit and elegance, and two reds – Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier – to provide body and backbone.
