Frapin is a cognac producer based in the Cognac region of southwestern France. The house has been involved in cognac production for generations, operating within the strictly regulated appellation system that defines cognac production. Like all cognac houses, Frapin sources from and works with the chalky vineyard sites of the region, where conditions have historically favored the production of brandies with particular character and aging potential.

Cognac production is defined by its method: double distillation of wine in copper pot stills, followed by aging in French oak casks. The Cognac region's terroir—particularly the chalk-rich soils of the Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne subdivisions—imparts mineral qualities to the base wines that influence the final spirit's profile. Frapin works primarily with Ugni Blanc, the traditional grape variety for cognac production, which yields high-acid wines ideal for distillation and long-term aging.

The current Frapin range includes VSOP (Very Superior Old Pale) expressions, which by regulation must be aged for a minimum of four years in oak. These represent the house's core offering and provide an approachable entry point to cognac's flavor profile—typically showing oak influence, warming alcohol character, and the dried fruit notes that develop through extended maturation.
