”The 2014 Canon la Gaffeliere has a fruit-driven, powerful bouquet with rounded raspberry, kirsch, mulberry and light honeyed scents that seem pure and seductive. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated red plum and tart cherry fruit. There is a spicy residue on the back palate with fine structure and poise towards the finish. As ever, a well-crafted, quite delicious Canon la Gaffeliere that should age with style. If the 2014 Canon doesn't quite deliver the opulence for you, then this suits the bill." Neal Martin

Onshore Cellars - ICONIC Producer

Back in the 19th century, Chateau Canon La Gaffeliere started out life with two separate names - Canon Boitard and La Gaffeliere-Boitard. In time, the double naming was made easier for consumers, combining the names, which created the moniker we know today as Chateau Canon La Gaffeliere.

Count Joseph Hubert von Neipperg purchased Canon La Gaffeliere in 1971. The von Neipperg family remain the owners today.

The vineyards are farmed using 100% organic methods. To help with that process, only organic compost, from their own making that is naturally low in nitrogen is used, and even then, that is always in tiny amounts.

Bordeaux, in the southwest of France, needs little introduction as one of the world's most famous, prestigious and prolific wine regions. The majority of Bordeaux wines (nearly 90 percent of production volume) are the dry, medium- and full-bodied red Bordeaux Blends that established its reputation.

The finest (and most expensive) of these are the wines from the great châteaux of the Haut-Médoc and the Right Bank appellations Saint-Émilion and Pomerol. The former is focused (at the top level) on Cabernet Sauvignon, the latter pair on on Merlot.

The legendary reds are complemented by high-quality white wines based on Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. These range from dry whites to challenge the best from the Burgundy region (Pessac-Léognan is particularly renowned) to the sweet, botrytized nectars of Sauternes.

Many of the region's finest vineyards can be found atop the steep limestone slopes of the village itself, although a fledgling band of garagiste producers are eschewing terroir to make small-batch, deeply-concentrated wines from their homes.
