San Filippo is a renowned wine producer located in the heart of the Brunello di Montalcino region in Tuscany, Italy. The winery is situated in the small town of Montalcino, which is known for its exceptional Sangiovese grapes and its production of high-quality Brunello di Montalcino wines.
San Filippo was founded in the late 1970s by Roberto Giannelli, who had a vision of creating world-class wines that truly reflected the unique terroir of Montalcino. Today, the winery is run by Roberto's son, Roberto Jr., who continues the family tradition of producing exceptional wines while also incorporating modern techniques and technologies.
The winery's vineyards cover a total of 22 hectares, with a majority of them dedicated to Sangiovese Grosso, the main grape variety used to produce Brunello di Montalcino. These vineyards are located at high altitudes, ranging from 300 to 450 meters, which allows for optimal sun exposure and temperature variations, resulting in grapes with intense flavors and aromas.
One of the most distinctive aspects of San Filippo's winemaking process is their commitment to producing single-vineyard wines. This means that each wine is made exclusively from grapes grown in a specific vineyard, showcasing the unique characteristics of that particular plot of land. This attention to detail and focus on terroir has earned San Filippo a reputation for producing some of the most terroir-driven and authentic Brunello di Montalcino wines.
In addition to their Brunello di Montalcino, San Filippo also produces a Rosso di Montalcino and a Super Tuscan blend called Le Lucere.
