Guigal's 2019 Saint-Joseph shows the bottling's characteristic granitic austerity and restraint, allied to notes of crushed stone and cassis. It's medium to full-bodied, smooth and polished, with a silky feel to the finish.
Guigal's 2018 Saint-Joseph seems a bit sterner and more tannic than it did prior to bottling, but it still delivers complex notes of crushed stone, black cherries and espresso on the nose. It's medium to full-bodied and firmly structured on the palate, but it does soften a bit on the long, mocha-tinged finish.
Guigal's blended 2017 Saint-Joseph delivers scents of crushed stone, cumin, clove, leather and dark, plummy fruit. Only medium-bodied, it's a fine, linear representation of Syrah, showing more length than breadth on the palate, with fine-grained tannins and a softly dusty finish. It should drink well for at least 6-7 years.
Aged in second fill barrels, the 2015 Saint-Joseph is another huge success. Sourced from the southern end of this sprawling appellation, off granitic sites, it showcases aromas of crushed stones and discrete pencil shavings, which frame bright cherry notes. It's medium to full-bodied, poised and fresh, with lingering tart berry flavors on a long, stony finish.
The 2014 Saint Joseph was aged in second use barrels. It features lovely violet aromas to go with cracked pepper notes and cherry fruit. It’s a medium-bodied, easy-drinking Saint Joseph with silky tannins that should drink well over the next several years.
Its dark red colour with purplish reflections reveals a powerful nose dominated by red fruits and subtly loaded with delicate aromas of wood coming from the barrels. On the palate, the frank and fruity attack is relayed by supple and round tannins. A lively and friendly Saint-Joseph.
