The 2019 Lanessan continues to perform very well, wafting from the glass with aromas of sweet berries, licorice and fresh tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with rich, powdery tannins and a vibrant core of fruit, it's a fine effort from a property with immense potential.
Softer and more open-knit than the 2014, the 2015 Lanessan unfurls with aromas of sweet berries, forest floor and pipe tobacco, followed by a medium-bodied, ample palate framed by melting tannins. A charmer, it will be at its best in the comparatively near term.

Chateau Lanessan is a renowned wine producer located in the Haut-Medoc region of Bordeaux, France. The estate has a rich history dating back to the 14th century when it was owned by the Lanessan family. Over the years, the estate has changed hands several times, but it has always maintained its reputation for producing high-quality wines.

The vineyards of Chateau Lanessan cover an area of 80 hectares and are planted with a variety of grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. The estate follows traditional winemaking techniques, and the grapes are handpicked and sorted before being fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for up to 18 months before being bottled.

Chateau Lanessan produces a range of wines, including its flagship wine, Chateau Lanessan Haut-Medoc. This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot and is known for its rich, full-bodied flavor and complex aromas of blackcurrant, tobacco, and spice. The estate also produces a second wine, Les Calèches de Lanessan, which is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon and is known for its fruity, easy-drinking style.

In addition to its red wines, Chateau Lanessan also produces a white wine, Les Coteaux de Lanessan. This wine is made from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grapes and is known for its crisp, refreshing flavor and citrusy aromas.

Overall, Chateau Lanessan is a producer of high-quality wines that are known for their rich, complex flavors and aromas. The estate's commitment to traditional winemaking techniques and its use of only the finest grapes ensure that its wines are among the best in the region.

Bordeaux, in the southwest of France, needs little introduction as one of the world's most famous, prestigious and prolific wine regions. The majority of Bordeaux wines (nearly 90 percent of production volume) are the dry, medium- and full-bodied red Bordeaux Blends that established its reputation.

The finest (and most expensive) of these are the wines from the great châteaux of the Haut-Médoc and the Right Bank appellations Saint-Émilion and Pomerol. The former is focused (at the top level) on Cabernet Sauvignon, the latter pair on on Merlot.

The legendary reds are complemented by high-quality white wines based on Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. These range from dry whites to challenge the best from the Burgundy region (Pessac-Léognan is particularly renowned) to the sweet, botrytized nectars of Sauternes.

The appellation covers a total area of 4,500 hectares, and is home to some of the most prestigious châteaux in Bordeaux.

The history of Haut-Médoc dates back to the 17th century, when Dutch merchants drained the marshy land and planted vineyards. The region was officially recognized as an appellation in 1936, and has since become synonymous with high-quality Bordeaux wines.

The style of production in Haut-Médoc is traditional, with a focus on blending different grape varieties to create complex and balanced wines. The dominant grape variety in the region is Cabernet Sauvignon, which is typically blended with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. The wines are aged in oak barrels for up to 18 months, which adds complexity and depth to the final product.

The soils in Haut-Médoc are diverse, with a mix of gravel, sand, and clay. This diversity allows for a range of different wine styles, from full-bodied and tannic to elegant and refined. The wines from Haut-Médoc are known for their structure, complexity, and aging potential.

Some of the most famous châteaux in Haut-Médoc include Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Mouton Rothschild. These wines are highly sought after by collectors and wine enthusiasts around the world, and can command prices in the thousands of pounds per bottle.

In addition to these prestigious châteaux, there are also many smaller producers in Haut-Médoc who are producing high-quality wines at more affordable prices. These wines may not have the same cachet as the top châteaux, but they offer excellent value for money and are a great way to explore the diversity of the region.
