Poggio di Sotto is a prestigious wine producer located in the heart of the Montalcino region in Tuscany, Italy. This small winery is known for its exceptional Brunello di Montalcino, a red wine made from 100% Sangiovese grapes that has gained a reputation as one of the finest expressions of the varietal in the world.
The estate was established in 1989 by Piero Palmucci, a renowned winemaker and visionary who believed in the potential of the Montalcino region to produce world-class wines. He purchased a small farm in the southern part of Montalcino and began planting Sangiovese vines, carefully selecting the clones and rootstocks to ensure the highest quality grapes.
Today, Poggio di Sotto is owned and operated by Claudio Tipa, who acquired the estate in 2011. Tipa shares Palmucci's commitment to producing exceptional wines through sustainable and traditional farming methods. The vineyards are certified organic and the grapes are hand-harvested to ensure only the best fruit is used in the winemaking process.
The Montalcino region is known for its unique terroir, with its high elevation and well-drained soils providing the perfect conditions for growing Sangiovese grapes. Poggio di Sotto's vineyards are located on the southern slopes of the Montalcino hills, where the warm Mediterranean climate and cool mountain breezes create an ideal microclimate for grape cultivation.
Poggio di Sotto produces a range of wines, including Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino, and a limited production Riserva. Their wines are known for their elegance, complexity, and rich aromas of red and black fruits, earth, and spices. They are aged in large French oak casks for a minimum of three years, followed by several months of bottle aging before release.
The winery's commitment to quality and tradition has earned them numerous
