Tasting notes

Dalwhinnie 15 yrs is a good introduction to the delights of single malt whisky, elegant, smooth and medium-bodied, with a light, fruity palate and a whiff of heather on the finish. Gold colour. Smooth, light to medium body. A big, crisp, dry and very aromatic nose with hints of heather and peat. Smooth palate , soft and lasting flavours of heather-honey sweetness and vanilla followed by deeper citrus-fruit flavours and hints of malted bread. Long, lingering finish, surprisingly intense finish that starts sweetly, then gives way to smoke, peat and malt.

About this whisky

Dalwhinnie is a Scottish distillery that has been producing whisky since 1897. Located in the heart of the Highlands, the distillery is situated at an altitude of 1,164 feet above sea level, making it one of the highest distilleries in Scotland. The name Dalwhinnie comes from the Gaelic language and means "meeting place," which is fitting as the distillery is located at the meeting point of two rivers, the Spey and the Truim.

Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old is a single malt whisky that is matured for a minimum of 15 years in American oak casks. The whisky has a golden amber color and a rich, complex flavor profile. On the nose, there are notes of heather honey, vanilla, and toffee, with a hint of smoke. On the palate, the whisky is smooth and creamy, with flavors of honey, malt, and a subtle smokiness. The finish is long and warming, with a touch of spice.

Dalwhinnie is known for producing high-quality, smooth and elegant whiskies that are perfect for sipping on their own or pairing with food. The distillery uses traditional methods of production, including using copper stills and wooden washbacks, to create their whiskies. They also use local water from the Allt an t'Sluic burn, which is known for its purity and softness.

In addition to their 15 Year Old expression, Dalwhinnie also produces a range of other whiskies, including a 25 Year Old and a Distillers Edition. Each expression has its own unique flavor profile, but all are characterized by their smoothness and elegance.

Overall, Dalwhinnie is a distillery that is steeped in history and tradition, and their whiskies are a testament to the skill and expertise of their distillers. Whether you are a seasoned whisky drinker or a newcomer to the world of single malts, Dalwhinnie is a distillery that is definitely worth exploring.
