Tasting Notes

The Creation 2024 Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge The Art of Pinot Noir comes across as lean and somewhat one-dimensional, leaving you wanting more. Aromatically, it shows dark berry notes with hints of blue flower and cola, carried by good freshness through a mild, gently tapering finish. Some 60% whole-bunch fruit is used. The wine is fermented and aged for 12 months in a mix of new and second-fill barrels, and it represents a focused selection of fruit from a small pocket within a larger single vineyard planted on Bokkeveld shale and clay loam. Production totals 4,550 bottles.
The Creation 2023 Walker Bay The Art of Pinot Noir is made from fruit from one of the estate's oldest vineyard blocks. Fermentation sees 60% whole-bunch fruit, and maturation embraces 30% new oak. The wine offers a wild note of forest berry, wild strawberry, blood orange and spice, and there is a dusty ferrous note that adds a tight mineral backbone to the wine.
Made from 60% whole cluster using clone 115 Pinot, the 2022 The Art of Pinot Noir begins with a fresh and expressive nose that offers complex and subtly spiced aromas of potpourri, rose petals, picturesque red fruit and seductive oak with brown baking spices. Medium-bodied, it is balanced with succulent acidity and fine-grained tannins that express a touch of shyness and tightness at the moment. It will benefit from additional years in the bottle. This beautiful Pinot is delicate, with a long, lingering finish and will continue to deliver pleasure for over a decade.
Bursting from the glass with seductive aromas of black cherry, wild raspberry and pencil lead, the 2021 The Art of Pinot Noir displays dusty red flowers and potpourri spice in the glass. Medium-bodied with 13.5% alcohol, the palate is fresh, juicy and succulent with a tight and food-friendly expression and mouthwatering tannic edge. It ends with a long, elegant yet firm finish, making me anxious to revisit this beauty in five years. Fantastic job!
The 2019 The Art of Pinot Noir has a picturesque, bursting-from-the-glass nose of fresh, crunchy red fruit with bright, high-toned red florals and seductive notes of cinnamon and turned earth. Medium-bodied, fine-grained and balanced with succulent acidity, the wine somersaults across the palate with precision and finesse before concluding with a long, lingering, spicy finish. Nicely done!
