Chateau de Fontaine-Audon

Chateau de Fontaine-Audon is a wine estate based in Sancerre, one of the most recognized appellations in the Loire Valley of central France. The property sits within a landscape defined by its distinct terroirs, producing white wines exclusively from Sauvignon Blanc, as Sancerre's appellation rules require for its whites.

Sancerre occupies the eastern edge of the Loire, where the climate is semi-continental and the soils vary considerably across the hillsides. Three soil types dominate the appellation: silex (flint), terres blanches (Kimmeridgian clay and limestone), and caillotes (limestone debris). Silex parcels are particularly associated with wines of pronounced mineral character, often described as smoky or flinty, with crisp acidity and tight structure that can support some aging.

The estate's Terroir Silex bottling reflects this site-specific approach, drawing from flint-rich parcels to produce a Sauvignon Blanc that foregrounds the mineral qualities the soil type is known for, alongside the citrus and herbal notes typical of the variety in this part of the Loire.
