Tommasi is a renowned producer of Amarone della Valpolicella Classico, a wine that has been produced in the Valpolicella region of Italy for centuries. The history of Amarone della Valpolicella Classico dates back to the Roman era, when the region was known for its wine production. The wine is made from a blend of grapes, including Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara, which are dried for several months before being pressed. This process, known as appassimento, concentrates the sugars and flavors in the grapes, resulting in a rich, full-bodied wine with a high alcohol content.

Tommasi's Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is made using traditional methods, with the grapes being hand-picked and carefully selected before being dried on racks for several months. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for a minimum of three years, resulting in a complex and well-balanced wine with notes of dark fruit, chocolate, and spice. The wine is best enjoyed with hearty meat dishes, such as roasted lamb or beef, and can also be paired with strong cheeses. Enjoy a glass of Tommasi's Amarone della Valpolicella Classico and experience the centuries-old tradition of Italian winemaking.

This has a shy nose that eventually reveals whiffs of stewed prune, leather and tilled earth. The solid palate offers baked plum, candied raisin and a dollop of vanilla alongside polished, rather relaxed tannins before a bitter almond finish. Drink through 2026.
From a very hot and dry vintage, the Tommasi 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is supple and round with plenty of soft fruit at its core. The vintage is less complex, with less depth, but it does deliver sweet tones of cherry, ripe plum and crème de cassis. Light shadings of spice and tobacco help to flesh it out. Tommasi's classic Amarone is a blend of 50% Corvina, 30% Corvinone, 15% Rondinella and 5% Oseleta. The grapes are sourced from the Le Groletta and Conca d'Oro vineyards, which have medium-rich limestone soils and lots of fossils.

Tommasi is a renowned family-owned wine producer based in the Valpolicella Classico region near Verona, in the Veneto area of Italy. Established in 1902, the Tommasi family has grown over the generations to become one of the leading figures in Italian viticulture, particularly famous for their approach to Amarone production.

Tommasi is best known for their expertise in crafting Amarone della Valpolicella, a prestigious red wine made using the traditional "appassimento" method. This involves drying the harvested grapes (typically Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara) for several months before fermentation, which concentrates their flavors and sugars. The result is a rich, opulent wine characterized by deep berry flavors, plum, fig, and hints of dark chocolate, all balanced with a velvety texture and substantial tannins.

In addition to Amarone, Tommasi also produces a range of other wines including Ripasso, Valpolicella Classico, and a variety of single vineyard expressions that highlight the unique terroirs of their extensive estate holdings. Their commitment to quality extends beyond Valpolicella, with investments in other key Italian wine regions such as Tuscany and Puglia, allowing them to offer a diverse portfolio that showcases the breadth of Italian winemaking traditions.

Tommasi's dedication to excellence is reflected in their modern yet respectful approach to winemaking, combining age-old techniques with sustainable practices to ensure both the quality of their wines and the health of their vineyards for future generations. This blend of tradition and innovation makes Tommasi a distinguished and respected name in the Italian wine industry.
