Clos Mogador

Clos Mogador

Clos Mogador is a prestigious winery in Gratallops, located in Spain’s Priorat region. It was founded in 1979 by René Barbier III and his wife, Isabelle Meyer. René came from a French winemaking family and saw great potential in Priorat's rugged, ancient vineyards. In the late 1980s, he and a few visionary winemakers launched the “Clos” movement, which revitalized the region and brought it international recognition.

The winery’s first vintage, Clos Mogador 1989, became a benchmark for modern Spanish wines. The flagship wine is a powerful red blend—mainly Garnacha, with Carignan, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon—showcasing the area's unique terroir.

Clos Mogador has remained family-run, now involving René’s children, and is known for its organic, sustainable practices and continued commitment to quality and innovation. It played a key role in earning Priorat the prestigious DOCa status, Spain’s highest wine classification.
