The medium to full-bodied 2020 Cotes du Rhone will see plenty of more time in tank, yet it's already drinking well, with hints of garrigue and black olives adding nuance to the blackberry and cherry fruit. Silky and clean, it's delightfully easy to drink.
Strongly marked by bold fruit on the nose, this Cotes du Rhone features scents of blackberries, raspberries and cherries. Medium to full-bodied, it's atypically rich and structured -a fine, balanced summation of the vintage.
Guigal's 2018 Cotes du Rhone is a fun, fruit-driven vintage of a wine whose normal style tends more toward "serious." It's medium to full-bodied but refreshingly supple, with juicy cherries and blueberries dancing on the palate.
Guigal's 2017 Cotes du Rhone will no doubt still be in various international markets for some time to come. It's a charming, easy-to-drink wine, loaded with cherry and berry fruit. Medium to full-bodied, it delivers enough weight, spicy complexity, and mouth-watering length to please most consumers.
There are an impressive 4.5 million bottles of the 2016 Cotes du Rhone, a ripe, silky wine that should bring pleasure to thousands of consumers. Cherries and raspberries mark the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate adds nuances of cola, tree bark and spice.
As usual, the 2015 Cotes du Rhone features a majority of Syrah, largely sourced from the western side of the Rhône. Spicy, peppery, hickory aromas lead off, adding berries up front and then moving into darker fruit and more savory notes of black olive by the finish. This medium to full-bodied wine finishes long and silky, avoiding any of the vintage's hard tannins, while still boasting the concentration to drink well through at least 2023.

The Northern Rhône wine region exploded in popularity in the mid 80’s and it was really down to two people, Etienne Guigal and Robert Parker. Etienne took over the vineyard in 1946, but it was his promotional efforts of the region combined with Robert Parker that put his wine on the map. Soon the Rhône Valley became famous as a wine region producing some of the most seductively elegant and aromatic wines in the world, Guigal’s Côte Rôtie being one of them.

E.Guigal is truly a family business with Marcel, Etienne’s son, taking over the business in 1961 with the help of wife Bernadette and today their son Phillipe and wife Eve represent the third generation of this iconic property.

Wine has been produced in the Rhône Valley for over 500 years, with some of its vineyards being amongst the oldest in France. Syrah rules over the south with a mix of Mediterranean grapes, while in the north, the two stars are Hermitage – grown on an imposing granite hillside above the town of Tain and best put away in the back of the cellar for a decade – and Côte-Rôtie, a star appellation made famous by Guigal's single-vineyard wines, yet also home to dozens of fine producers as yet less well known. The sheer hillsides overlooking the river have to be terraced to make production possible.

St Joseph and Cornas also provide wines of weight and worth, but the best source for good value is Crozes-Hermitage, a satellite appellation which has come alive in the last few years with the arrival of young blood.

The river valley widens out south of Valence into Côtes du Rhône country on the windy alluvial plains and the lower slopes of the hills. It is a most imposing sight during the cold, clear, blue skies of Mistral conditions. The best of the wine villages of the Côtes du Rhône have been promoted to their own appellations - Vinsobres, Vacqueyras - close in quality to the better known Gigondas.

The king of the southern Rhône is Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Here the galets roulés, rounded rocks from the ancient river bed, provide the context for gloriously rich red wines that are redolent of the heat and herbs of the south, and enhanced by the complexity which comes from blending several grape varieties. Thirteen are permitted in all, but Grenache usually dominates, along with Syrah and Mourvèdre in support. A fine vintage needs eight to 10 years cellaring for best results.

If your taste runs to fuller, richer, relatively exotic white wines, then perhaps a white Hermitage or Châteauneuf-du-Pape from the Rhône Valley would suit better, or else a marvellously perfumed, heady Condrieu - headquarters of the Viognier grape.

Côtes du Rhône is a wine region located in the southern part of France, along the Rhône River. The region is known for producing some of the finest wines in the world, with a history that dates back to the Roman times. The region is divided into two parts, the Northern Rhône and the Southern Rhône, each with its own unique style of wine.

The Northern Rhône is known for producing some of the finest red wines in the world, with Syrah being the dominant grape variety. The wines from this region are known for their complexity, elegance, and ageability. The most famous appellations in the Northern Rhône include Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, and Cornas.

The Southern Rhône, on the other hand, is known for producing a wide range of wines, including red, white, and rosé. The most famous appellation in the Southern Rhône is Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which produces rich and full-bodied red wines that are often blended with Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. Other appellations in the Southern Rhône include Gigondas, Vacqueyras, and Tavel.

The wines from Côtes du Rhône are produced using traditional winemaking techniques, with a focus on quality and terroir. The region has a Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and mild winters, which allows the grapes to ripen fully and develop complex flavors. The soils in the region are diverse, with a mix of clay, limestone, and sandstone, which adds to the complexity of the wines.

Overall, Côtes du Rhône is a region that produces some of the finest wines in the world, with a rich history and a focus on quality and terroir. Whether you are looking for a complex and elegant red wine from the Northern Rhône or a rich and full-bodied red wine from the Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône has something to offer for every wine lover.
