Laroche is an area that has marked the history of Chablis. Created in 1850, the estate is today one of the largest vineyards in the appellation with more than 91 hectares in ownership including 3 grands crus and 7 premier crus. Its historical heritage is not only wine. Located in the heart of old Chablis in buildings erected by the monks of Saint-Martin de Tours, its wines are kept in one of the oldest cellars still in use today. Also, the Laroche estate has a real wine cellar. Its great wines were set aside in 1976 by Michel Laroche, which today makes it possible to taste verticals on several crus. Laroche is also the owner of Mas La Chevalière, an estate in the Languedoc.

The French Wine region of Burgundy (aka “Bourgogne”) may be small in size, but its influence is huge in the world of vino. The complexity of Burgundy can cast fear into the heart of even a seasoned wine pro, but fear not – the region need only be as complicated as you want it to be. Yes, it is home to some of the most expensive wines in the known universe, but there are also tasty and affordable wines.

Main grapes:

Pinot Noir originated in Burgundy and these vines cover 34% of the region, accounting for 29% of overall wine production. The red grape does extremely well in limestone and clay soil, which helps create their complexity. Pinot Noir wines from Burgundy range in colour from cherry to brick, are light in body, and typically have red fruit and spicy flavours. Gamay is a red grape also grown in Burgundy, but only makes up 10% of the vines.

Chardonnay is the primary grape for white wines in Burgundy, making up 48% of the vines and 68% of production. Chardonnay appreciates Burgundy’s marl soil, which gives it delicate floral, fruit, and mineral aromas and full-bodied flavours. Aligoté is the second white grape, accounting for 6% grown. {Read more about the ancient Aligoté grape in Burgundy.}

The region does produce a sparkling wine called Crémant de Bourgogne. It can be made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Aligoté, Gamay, Sacy, and Melon. Varieties include blanc, blanc de blancs, blanc de noirs, and rosé.

Chablis Grand Cru is a highly sought-after wine produced in the Chablis region of France. This region is known for its unique terroir, which is characterized by its limestone-rich soil and cool climate. The Chablis Grand Cru is made from Chardonnay grapes, which are grown in the vineyards located on the slopes of the Serein River.

The history of Chablis Grand Cru dates back to the Roman times, when the region was known for its wine production. However, it was not until the 12th century that the wines of Chablis gained international recognition. In the 19th century, the phylloxera epidemic devastated the vineyards of Chablis, but the region was able to recover and regain its reputation as a producer of high-quality wines.

The production of Chablis Grand Cru is highly regulated, with strict rules governing the grape varieties, yields, and winemaking techniques. The grapes must be harvested by hand and the wine must be aged for at least 18 months in oak barrels before it can be released for sale. The result is a wine that is elegant, complex, and full of character.

Chablis Grand Cru is known for its crisp acidity, minerality, and citrus flavors. It is a wine that can be enjoyed on its own or paired with a variety of foods, including seafood, poultry, and cheese. The wine is also versatile enough to be enjoyed at any time of the year, whether it is a warm summer day or a cold winter night.

Overall, Chablis Grand Cru is a wine that is highly regarded by wine enthusiasts around the world. Its unique terroir, strict production regulations, and complex flavors make it a wine that is truly one of a kind. Whether you are a seasoned wine connoisseur or a novice wine drinker, Chablis Grand Cru is a wine that is sure to impress.
