Tasting notes

This American whisky (not whiskey) is drier than most other Kentucky bourbons. This is due to the higher than average alcohol content (45%) and the significant percentage of wheat in addition to corn in the mashbill (the mix of cereals). This bourbon, which takes pride in being different, has particularly noticeable notes of liquorice and violets which linger seemingly endlessly. This excellent bourbon contains a small percentage of wheat, and bears the name of one of the most charming distilleries in Kentucky. Golden colour with glints of amber; the generous nose reveals aromas of liquorice, woody-vanilla and slightly burnt, rubbery notes. The rather dry palate presents finesse as it develops flavours of dried fruit (walnuts, raisins) and plums. Long, peach-skin finish.

About this whisky

Maker's Mark is a renowned American bourbon whiskey producer that has been in operation since 1953. Located in Loretto, Kentucky, Maker's Mark is known for its distinctive red wax seal on its bottles and its small-batch production process. The whiskey is made from a mash bill of 70% corn, 16% wheat, and 14% malted barley, giving it a smooth and mellow taste. It is then aged for a minimum of six years in charred oak barrels, which gives it its distinctive caramel color and rich flavor.

Maker's Mark is also known for its unique production process, which involves rotating the barrels during the aging process to ensure that the whiskey is evenly distributed throughout the barrel. This process, known as "rotary mashing," is one of the key factors that give Maker's Mark its distinctive taste.

Maker's Mark produces a range of bourbons, including its flagship Maker's Mark Bourbon Whiskey, Maker's Mark 46, and Maker's Mark Cask Strength. Maker's Mark Bourbon Whiskey is a smooth and mellow bourbon that is perfect for sipping neat or on the rocks. Maker's Mark 46 is a more complex bourbon that is aged for an additional nine weeks in barrels that have been fitted with seared French oak staves. Maker's Mark Cask Strength is a high-proof bourbon that is bottled straight from the barrel, giving it a bold and intense flavor.

Overall, Maker's Mark is a top-quality bourbon whiskey producer that is known for its unique production process and distinctive taste. Whether you are a seasoned bourbon drinker or a newcomer to the world of whiskey, Maker's Mark is a brand that is sure to impress.
