Graham’s has always been a pioneer. Graham's was one of the first Port companies to invest in its own vineyards in Portugal’s Douro Valley in 1890 and is now at the cutting edge of innovation in winemaking techniques. Today, five Symington cousins share responsibility for every aspect of the company and personally make the Graham’s wines. They too have been involved with Port and the Douro for many generations, with ancestry dating back to the mid-17th century.

Graham's is one of the most distinguished and prestigious Port producers in the world, known for its high-quality Port wines. Founded in 1820 by William and John Graham in the Douro Valley of Portugal, Graham's has built a reputation over the years for its superb range of Port styles, including Tawny, Ruby, and Vintage Ports.

**Wine Styles and Quality**
Graham's excels particularly in producing Vintage Port, which is widely recognized for its richness, depth, and longevity. Vintage Ports from Graham's are made only in the best years, from the finest grapes sourced from their prime vineyard properties, such as Quinta dos Malvedos, Quinta do Tua, and Quinta das Lages. These wines are known for their complex structure and concentrated flavors, often showcasing notes of blackberry, plum, and spices, with a remarkable ability to age for decades.

Graham's also produces outstanding Tawny Ports, especially aged Tawny Ports like the 10, 20, 30, and 40-year-olds. These Tawnies are celebrated for their elegance and complexity, featuring flavors of caramel, nuts, and dried fruits, achieved through extended barrel aging which imparts a characteristic smoothness and a rich, golden color.

**Innovation and Sustainability**
The Symington family, which owns and operates Graham's, is deeply committed to sustainability and innovation. They have invested significantly in advanced winemaking technologies and sustainable practices both in the vineyards and during the production process. This includes everything from water conservation measures to solar power to sustainable viticulture practices, ensuring that their operations have minimal environmental impact.

**Visitor Experience**
Graham’s 1890 Lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia, near Porto, serves as a visitor center where guests can tour the cellars, taste different styles of Port, and learn about the history and production of these unique wines. The lodge offers breathtaking views over the historic city of Porto and the Douro River, enhancing the experience of learning about and tasting Port.

As a producer, Graham's continues to set standards in the industry for the quality and breadth of their Port wines, maintaining a balance between traditional winemaking techniques and modern innovation. Their Ports are cherished by connoisseurs and casual drinkers alike, symbolizing the heritage and enduring craftsmanship of Port wine production.

Port is a fortified wine that hails from the Douro Valley in Portugal. The region has been producing wine for over 2,000 years, with the first recorded mention of Port wine dating back to the 17th century. The wine is made by adding brandy to the fermenting grape juice, which stops the fermentation process and leaves the wine with a higher alcohol content.

There are several different styles of Port, including Ruby, Tawny, Vintage, and Late Bottled Vintage. Ruby Port is the most common style and is aged in large oak barrels for two to three years before being bottled. Tawny Port is aged in smaller oak barrels for longer periods of time, resulting in a more complex and nutty flavor profile. Vintage Port is made from grapes from a single vintage year and is only produced in exceptional years. Late Bottled Vintage Port is made from grapes from a single vintage year but is aged in barrels for longer periods of time before being bottled.

Some of the top Port producers in the Douro Valley include Quinta do Noval, Taylor's, and Graham's. Quinta do Noval is known for its Vintage Port, which is made from grapes grown in the Quinta do Noval vineyard. Taylor's is one of the oldest and most respected Port houses in the region, with a history dating back to the 17th century. Graham's is known for its Tawny Port, which is aged for longer periods of time than most other Tawny Ports.

Port is a versatile wine that can be enjoyed on its own or paired with a variety of foods. It pairs particularly well with strong cheeses, chocolate, and desserts. Whether you're a seasoned wine connoisseur or a casual drinker, Port is a wine that is sure to impress.
