Lagavulin Single Malt Scotch Whisky is treasured around the world as one of the most special of all Single Malts. As part of Lagavulin’s 200th-anniversary celebrations, a Lagavulin 8 Year Old was launched as a special edition. Following the incredibly positive response, an 8 Year Old bottling will now join the Lagavulin family permanently. Inspired by the distillery’s rich heritage, the bottle pays tribute to Britain’s most famous Victorian whisky writer, Alfred Barnard. In the late 1880s, Barnard, one of the first ever whisky journalists and travellers, sampled an 8 Year Old Lagavulin during a visit to Islay, describing it as “exceptionally fine” and “held in high repute.”

Islay is a small island located off the west coast of Scotland, known for its peaty and smoky single malt whiskies. The island has a long history of whisky production, dating back to the early 18th century. The unique character of Islay whisky is attributed to the island's peat bogs, which are used to dry the malted barley, giving the whisky its distinctive smoky flavor.

Islay is home to eight working distilleries, each with its own unique style and character. Ardbeg, Laphroaig, and Lagavulin are among the most well-known and highly regarded distilleries on the island, producing rich, complex whiskies with notes of smoke, seaweed, and brine. Bowmore, Bruichladdich, Caol Ila, Kilchoman, and Bunnahabhain are also popular distilleries on the island, each with its own distinct style and flavor profile.

In addition to whisky, Islay is also known for its gin production. The Botanist, produced by Bruichladdich distillery, is a popular gin made with 22 botanicals, many of which are native to the island. The gin has a complex, herbaceous flavor profile, with notes of juniper, citrus, and wildflowers.

Overall, Islay is a must-visit destination for whisky and gin enthusiasts, offering a unique and diverse range of spirits that are deeply rooted in the island's history and culture.
