You just can't beat the purity of the bouquet here: cherries, red liquorice, blue flowers and currants. It's all stunning. Il Marroneto's 2015 Brunello di Montalcino opens to a light garnet color with faint ruby highlights. The wine never veers from its lanes, sticking to an absolutely traditional and fresh expression from the appellation. It offers a lean to medium-weight mouthfeel with radiant fruit flavours - I think pure cherry fruit. Fruit is harvested from a five-hectare parcel at 300 meters above sea level with calcareous sand and Galestro soils. These conditions lead to the aromatic intensity of the wine, and that's the main takeaway in this classic vintage. There is a moment of softness that expands quickly over the palate. These results are graceful and gorgeous.
Il Marroneto's 2014 Brunello di Montalcino is thin and streamlined in terms of appearance. Indeed, this is one of the lightest and most luminous red wines I have seen from Montalcino in recent memory. You might mistake it for a Pinot Noir when regarded from afar. It shines with radiant ruby and garnet hues. In terms of bouquet, this Brunello emits steady aromas of wild berry, cassis, toasted almond and dried garden rose. That floral impact is the wine's most endearing characteristic. However, the wine does lose momentum in terms of mouthfeel because the finish is short and abrupt. The wine needs a year or two to flesh out.
Alessandro Mori's Il Marroneto 2017 Brunello di Montalcino opens to a very distinguished and unique character that makes this wine easy to recognize in a lineup of Brunello. This hot and dry growing season made for more powerful aromas and sometimes riper flavors in the appellation, generally speaking. But this magically lean-bodied wine follows its own path, and the warmth of the summer seems to have cemented almost exotic aromas of bay leaf, crushed flower, campfire ash and iron ore. The wine is exceedingly silky and elegant, but instead of opulence, you get streamlined tension accompanied by lifted, immediate aromas of fruit, flowers and light spice
Out of the gate, the Il Marroneto 2016 Brunello di Montalcino shows exciting purity and red fruit intensity. Compared to the Madonna delle Grazie, this wine has an ever-more lifted quality to the bouquet, whereas the Madonna has a firmer underlying texture that bodes well for longer aging. The character here is fresh, lively, youthful and vibrant. In fact, I would recommend drinking this wine while all those elements are still intact. The bouquet is crazy fun to describe: I get whiffs of black cherry, macchia mediterranea (which is not too different from what we call chaparral in California), peppercorn, dried cranberry and even a whiff of something that reminded me of the delicious rosemary herb mix you stuff inside roast porchetta. The base of the wine is light, almost weightless, but its structure and firmness do eventually catch up on the long finish.
Made strictly according to the Sangiovese playbook, the Il Marroneto 2012 Brunello di Montalcino shows that exacting Sangiovese precision and personality. This is Alessandro Mori's greatest talent. He takes this workhorse grape and gives it a platform to articulate its most hidden and intricate inner feelings and sentiments. This is a bright and very tight red wine that will benefit from more years to flesh out further. All those budding aromas of wild berry, liquorice, cola, and blue flower are strategically in place and ready to explode in time. The wine opens to a luminous dark ruby colour and a compact mouthfeel that is spicy and fresh on the close. This is an impressive annata wine that shows the personal evolution of a man and his estate.

The Il Marroneto story began in 1974 when the Mori family started to make Brunello for fun and for the love of the wine. In time this “playing with wine” became more serious and Allessandro Mori decided to expand the cellars and pursue his love of winemaking, adopting a traditional and minimalist approach, producing wines that are 100% Sangiovese.

Do you have a favourite food and wine pairing with your Brunello? I love to drink a glass of good wine separate from food. Playing cards with my friends, watching a movie, reading a book…. I can enjoy all the pleasures that come from the glass. I love to think that my wine can be perfect for these moments of intimacy. - Alessandro Mori, Owner

århundrede, at vinen begyndte at blive anerkendt uden for lokalområdet.
