Domaine Michel Gaunoux Pommard Rugiens 1er Cru is a prestigious red wine with a rich taste profile. On the palate, expect bold flavors of dark cherries, blackberries, and hints of earthy notes. The aroma is intense, with a mix of ripe fruits, spices, and a touch of oak. What sets this wine apart is its exceptional balance of fruitiness and complexity, making it a standout choice for wine enthusiasts.

This wine is perfect for special occasions such as elegant dinner parties, celebrations, or romantic evenings. Pair it with hearty dishes like roasted lamb, beef bourguignon, or aged cheeses to complement its robust flavors. Domaine Michel Gaunoux Pommard Rugiens 1er Cru is a sophisticated choice that will impress any wine connoisseur.

More brooding than the Grands Epenots, the 2017 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens unfurls in the glass with a deep-pitched bouquet of cassis, black cherries, rich soil tones, peonies and dark chocolate, deftly framed by a discreet touch of oak. On the palate, it's full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a textural attack, muscular but velvety structuring tannins and a long, resonant and intensely sapid finish. This is a brilliant wine from Gaunoux, and one of the wines of the vintage along the Côte de Beaune this year.
The 2018 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens has also turned out beautifully, wafting from the glass with scents of plums, dark chocolate, peonies, orange rind and spices. Medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, it's velvety and layered, balanced by lively acids and concluding with a long, mineral finish. If the domaine produced an unusually serious, concentrated Rugiens in 2017, they've produced an unusually suave, elegant Rugiens in 2018, making for a duo that it will be fascinating to compare for decades to come.

Michel Gaunoux is a distinguished wine producer based in Pommard, within the Burgundy region of France. The domaine, known for its traditional approach to winemaking, has been highly respected for many decades, producing some of the most classic and well-regarded expressions of Pinot Noir from the area.

**Background and Philosophy:**
The Gaunoux family has a long history in Burgundian viticulture, and Michel Gaunoux’s estate is noted for its steadfast dedication to traditional winemaking methods. The philosophy here is deeply rooted in the expression of terroir, with a minimal intervention approach in both the vineyard and the cellar. This ensures that the wines genuinely reflect the character of their vineyard origins.

**Vineyard Holdings:**
Domaine Michel Gaunoux holds impressive parcels in the Côte de Beaune, including esteemed Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards in Pommard and Corton. The estate is particularly noted for its holdings in Pommard, such as the Premier Crus "Les Rugiens" and "Les Grands Epenots," which are known for producing robust and structured wines.

**Winemaking Techniques:**
The winemaking at Domaine Michel Gaunoux is meticulously precise, with a focus on purity and longevity. The grapes are harvested manually, and sorting is rigorous, ensuring only the best fruit is used. Fermentation is carried out using natural yeasts, and the wine is aged in French oak barrels, with a careful selection to avoid overt oak flavors. The wines are typically bottled without filtration, adhering to the philosophy that less manipulation results in a more authentic expression of the wine.

**Wine Style and Characteristics:**
Wines from Domaine Michel Gaunoux are known for their intensity, complexity, and capacity to age. They are quintessentially Burgundian, showcasing the delicate balance between power and elegance that is characteristic of the region’s best Pinot Noirs. The Pommard wines, in particular, are celebrated for their deep color, rich texture, and aromatic complexity, often with notes of dark cherries, earth, and spices.

**Reputation and Legacy:**
Michel Gaunoux’s wines are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate their traditional style and aging potential. The domaine has maintained a low profile, focusing on quality and consistency rather than commercial expansion. This commitment to excellence has cemented its reputation as a producer of some of the most authentic and esteemed wines in Burgundy.

In summary, Domaine Michel Gaunoux is a bastion of traditional Burgundian winemaking, with a legacy of producing profound and age-worthy wines that are a testament to the unique terroirs of Pommard and Corton.

Chardonnay er den primære drue til hvidvin i Bourgogne og udgør 48 % af vinstokkene og 68 % af produktionen. Chardonnay sætter pris på Bourgognes mergeljord, som giver den delikate blomster-, frugt- og mineralaromaer og en fyldig smag. Aligoté er den anden hvide drue og tegner sig for 6 % af produktionen. {Læs mere om den gamle Aligoté-drue i Bourgogne.}

Pommard is a village located in the Côte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy, France. The village is known for producing some of the most robust and full-bodied red wines in the region. Pommard wines are made from Pinot Noir grapes, which are grown on the slopes of the Côte d'Or.

The history of winemaking in Pommard dates back to the Roman era, when the area was known for producing high-quality wines. The village was also a popular destination for pilgrims traveling to Santiago de Compostela, who would stop in Pommard to rest and enjoy the local wines.

Today, Pommard is home to some of the most prestigious wineries in Burgundy, including Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Comte Armand, and Domaine de Courcel. These wineries are known for their traditional winemaking techniques, which involve hand-harvesting the grapes and fermenting them in oak barrels.

Pommard wines are known for their deep ruby color and complex aromas of black cherry, raspberry, and earthy notes. On the palate, these wines are full-bodied and tannic, with flavors of dark fruit, spice, and a hint of minerality. Pommard wines are best enjoyed with hearty dishes such as roasted meats, stews, and strong cheeses.
