2019 offers us a Le Volte dell'Ornellaia whose key words are balance and expressiveness. With its brilliant ruby color, its assertive nose of red berries and rose petals and its ample and enveloping flavors on the palate, characterised by dense tannins and lively acidity, this wine is charming and pleasant to drink.
The 2018 Volte dell'Ornellaia perfectly reflects the characteristics of the vintage, revealing great elegance and fine balance. The nose is fabulously complex, very fruity with delicate floral scents and hints of spices. The silky and tannic structure is present on the palate, with a fresh and lively finish.
A vintage from a particularly hot and dry year, Le Volte dell'Ornellaia 2017 is characterized by its usual deep ruby colour. The nose offers a seductive bouquet of very ripe red fruits and spices, supported in the mouth by a lively acidity and an open and enveloping tannic structure.
Few vintages have expressed the full virtues of the Tuscan coastal climate as eloquently as the 2016. A near-perfect combination of sunshine, hot summer days and cool nights, with just enough rain to slow growth of the vine without it suffering from drought, all giving one of the purest expressions of Le Volte dell'Ornellaia, combining perfectly ripe but lively fruit with a silky and generous texture, underlined by a fresh acidity and live.

Italy's most ancient wine region, Tuscany may not be a heavyweight in terms of quantity, but as the home of two of the country's most famous fine wines – Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino – it certainly holds its own in terms of quality. Tuscany's climate ranges from Mediterranean on the coast to continental deep in the Apennines. More than two thirds of the province is covered with hills, an important terroir factor in its fine wines.

Toscana IGT refers to wines not covered by the various DOC, DOCG or other IGT designations in the region of Tuscany. A producer may wish to label his red, white, rosé or frizzante wine from Tuscany as a Toscana IGT, although this designation does not carry as much weight as a specific DOC or DOCG labeling, as those wines are much more specific as to where the grapes were grown. Thus a Toscana IGT has only a vague meaning, being a wine from Tuscany; it could be quite simple or it could be rather complex.

Most versions are red and are made from Sangiovese; some are unoaked, while many receive oak aging. The principal red variety would be Sangiovese, the region’s most famous and widely planted variety. Wines made from Sangiovese offer red cherry fruit with red floral perfumes, good acidity and moderate tannins; lighter versions, ready to drink upon release, pair well with tomato-based soups and lighter pastas, while the more full-bodied examples work well with roasts, game and aged cheeses.
