Salcombe Gin - Rose Sainte Marie

Colour: Spirits

Named after the iconic ‘Sainte Marie’ lighthouse which marks the Southern entrance to the Old Port of Marseille, from where 19th century Salcombe Fruit Schooners would load citrus fruits and herbs bound for England’s ports. ‘Rosé Sainte Marie’ is inspired by the aromas, flavours and lifestyle of the South of France and is a celebration of adventure, colour, freshness and joy; capturing the vibrant spirit of the Mediterranean coast.

‘Rosé Sainte Marie’ is a delicate, fresh and truly exquisite gin, reminiscent of a balmy summer’s evening sat outside on the terrace of your favourite restaurant, watching the world go by. It can be enjoyed from the beginning to the end of a meal, as an aperitif or digestif, on the beach or beside the pool, but always when you need a little Mediterranean sunshine in your life.

Tasting Notes

‘Rosé Sainte Marie’ has fragrant notes of fresh lemon peel and Provence herbs are complemented by the natural sweetness of red fruit and the distinctive perfume of white flowers and orange blossom carried on a sea breeze. Lavender and lemon verbena, along with a hint of white pepper, add subtle finesse. On the palate it has fullness and intensity whilst remaining smooth with an endearing and lingering softness to finish.

No added sugar.  It is purposefully dry in style, with no added sugar, letting the consumer control their desired level of sweetness of their G&T, through their selection of mixer and garnish.

Best served:On its own over ice or with a premium Indian tonic water and a slice of strawberry to accentuate the bouquet of red fruit or a twist of fresh lemon peel to bring the fragrant citrus to the fore. Alternatively try our ‘Salcombe Rosé Spritz’cocktail.

One of the few distilleries in the world that is accessible by boat, Salcombe Gin was inspired by the Salcombe ‘fruiters’ that brought exotic fruit into Devon from the Azores, West Indies and Mediterranean in the 19th century.

The gin is lovingly handcrafted on a beautiful 450L copper pot still and made with thirteen botanicals inclyding Macedonian juniper, fresh lemon, lime and grapefruit peels, cardamon, liquorice, cinnamon bark, chamomile, coriander seeds and cubeb berries. Each batch is distilled with unrivalled passion, care and attention to detail and then blended together with Dartmoor water to produce an exception gin.

Unlike many larger producers, Salcombe Gin use a more traditional approach known as the one shot method and distil their gin according to the ‘London Dry’ standard.
