Querciabella - Mongrana - Toscana IGT

Mongrana comes from the Banditella, Podere Harras and Sugherettaia vineyards and has been biodynamically grown since inception. The first vintage was 2005. The soil is a mixture of silt and alluvial sand, with areas of gravel and surface pebbles that can be traced back to the Pleistocene.

93 points, James Suckling: “A juicy and delicious 2015 red with plenty of berry and chocolate character. Medium to full body, round tannins and a flavorful finish. A blend of sangiovese, merlot and cabernet sauvignon. Drink or hold.”

    Querciabella was founded in 1974 by Giuseppe Castiglioni at the beginning of the Super Tuscan wine movement and is now in the hands of his son Sebastiano. A lover of fine wine, Sebastiano’s passion for great winemaking combined with his uncompromising vision has meant that Querciabella has quickly established itself as one of the leading wineries in Italy, earning acclaim from the world’s most discriminating critics.

    Querciabella has vineyards located throughout Tuscany’s Chianti Classico and Meremma regions. Sebastiano’s strong commitment to the environment inspired him to convert the winery to biodynamics in 2000 and all of the wines are 100% vegan. Indeed, Querciabella has one of the largest biodynamic vineyard holdings in all of Italy. The full range consists of seven different wines, reflecting the diversity of Tuscan terroir.
