92 Points - The Wine Advocate
”The 2014 Bolgheri Rosso Magari opens to a dark garnet color and pretty ruby highlights. I really love the crispness, acidity and linearity of this vintage that stands so far away from the more opulent and robust editions of the past. Angelo Gaja has interpreted the 2014 vintage very nicely in his beautiful property on the Tuscan Coast. Instead of looking for power and thickness, he strives for finesse and crispness. Yes, the vintage was cooler and wetter, but his skill in obtaining these qualities should not go overlooked. This is a different kind of Gaja wine (made with Merlot and Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc), but a very worthwhile expression nonetheless. I will give it a shorter drinking window, however.” Monica Lancer

”This is the second year that this wine is a DOC (In 2011, Magari was still an IGT Toscana). The 2013 Bolgheri Rosso Magari is a gorgeous wine that shows that signature touch that only Angelo Gaja can deliver. The overall effect is thick, delicious and enduring. The blend is Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc so you get those upfront aromas of cherry compote with firm tannins at the back. The 2013 vintage shows superior harmony and complexity.” Monaco Lancer

The Gaja family settled in Piedmont in the mid-seventeenth century. Five generations of Gaja’s have been producing wines in the Langhe hills since 1989, the year Giovanni Gaja, a local grape grower, founded the Gaja winery in Barbaresco.
Following years of dedication to uncompromising quality, the wines achieved a leadership position in Italy and the family was able to purchase vineyard holdings acquiring Sorì Tildìn, Costa Russi, Sorì San Lorenzo and Darmagi.
Angelo Gaja took over the family business in 1961 and combined his respect for the traditions of the Langhe with bold innovations in the vineyards and cellars which changed the way that wines were produced all over Italy.
Angelo lives in Barbaresco with his wife Lucia and their three children, Gaia, Rossana and Giovanni who represent the fifth generation of the family and are all involved in the business.
Today the winery owns 96 ha of vineyards in Barbaresco and Barolo. In 1994, the Gajas acquired their first estate in Tuscany, Pieve Santa Restituta in Montalcino. In 1996 the family purchased their second Tuscan property, Ca’ Marcanda in Bogheri.
