“The Gaja 2017 Barbaresco is nuanced and delicate with ever-expanding aromatic intensity that amply fills the balloon of your glass. The wine takes a little while to open fully, and it slowly releases forest berry, powdered licorice, toasted aniseed, spearmint, dried lavender and rosemary essence to build a lasting bouquet. The mouthfeel is streamlined and almost steely, with an extremely linear approach that adds to its length and persistency. The tannins are tucked into the wine’s delicate fiber, but you do feel the extra textural firmness of the hot vintage nonetheless. As we have seen in past vintages, more definition is added by a pretty mineral note that is a common thread in these wines from Gaja.” - Monica Larner - Robert Parker's Wine advocate

"The 2016 Barbaresco starts off slowly, showing a small margin of aromatic evolution in the glass. But come back two hours later, and you can almost hear the sweet sounds of the symphony playing just below the surface. The 2016 vintage stands out. by the solid intensity and firmness of its aromas, which transcend the fruit and orient instead towards the balsamic grass, licorice, tar and smoke. The tannins offer a moment of sweetness and suppleness, before you go you realize their undeniable firmness. The palate has a certain luster or satin which underlines the careful integration of the wine. I would describe it as classic and also a little austere Barbaresco which fully deserves an additional cellar time to stretch those tense muscles and gain in volume. This wine will reward those who wait. " - Monica Larner - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"This is a slightly more subdued vintage of this legendary wine, albeit just as sophisticated as past editions. The 2014 Barolo Sperss opens to gorgeous aromas of dark fruit, wet earth and white truffle. The vineyards in Serralunga d'Alba produced much less fruit than average and suffered from bouts of downy mildew during the rainy seasons. But Serralunga d'Alba fruit is also harvested late, and that extra time was important for achieving grape ripeness targets. The wine presents depth and complexity within the context of a thinner vintage. Having said that, the bouquet is spectacular." - Robert Parker

"Medium ruby color. Extremely aromatic with rose petal, strawberry and stone character. Medium to full body. Ultra-fine tannins. Hints of walnut. Super long finish. A wine that is a joy to drink now but will reward you even more in four or five years and onwards." - James Suckling

"So perfumed with black cherry, strawberry and flowers. Tar undertones. Brick, too. Some minerals. Stone fruit. Full body, fine tannins and a fresh finish. Barbaresco with clarity and finesse. This has some wine from the top crus of Gaja such as Sori Tildin and Sori San Lorenzo in the blend because they were not bottled. Drink or hold." - James Suckling

"Extremely perfumed with roses, dark berries, ash, asphalt, and sliced plums. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a juicy, savory finish. Orange and lemon peel undertones. Gorgeous finish. Hard not to drink now. A beautiful wine. Drink or hold. But why wait?" - James Suckling
