  • ”The 2014 La Dame de Montrose lagged a long way behind the superlative Grand Vin at primeur, but has since made up some ground. Now in bottle, it has a nicely poised bouquet with red cherries, bilberry and crushed violets. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, tightly wound and linear, a conservative La Dame de Montrose that I suspect will age better than I originally thought."Robert Parker

  • ”One of this appellation’s finest second wines, the 2011 La Dame de Montrose offers attractive black cherry and black currant fruit, soft tannins, medium body and a silky personality. While it lacks concentration, it makes up for it with its charm and forward appeal." Robert Parker

”One of the best second wines, and possibly the best since the 1990 is the 2010 La Dame de Montrose. This represents 36% of the production and is a blend of two grapes – 64% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Merlot. A superb second wine, opulent and substantively textured, it shares more in common with a flamboyant, exuberant year such as 2009 than most 2010s. Dense purple, its oodles of fruit, luxurious mouthfeel and terrific finish make it a sleeper of the vintage. It’s a wine to buy in abundant quantities and drink over the next 10-15+ years." ”Over the last twenty years, Montrose's second wine, La Dame de Montrose has been an excellent buy. The 2009 La Dame de Montrose (almost all Merlot with a tiny bit of Cabernet Sauvignon) is a seductive, succulent effort revealing silky tannins, abundant blueberry and blackberry fruit notes intermixed with notions of damp earth, truffles and camphor, and an appealing, luscious personality." Robert Parker

One of the leading properties in St Estèphe, Château Montrose also produces some of the longest-lived wines in the Médoc. The property is located in the east of the appellation, only 800m from the Gironde estuary which lends to a microclimate protecting the vines against frost. The wine is normally a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. A 2ème Cru Classé, the wines are deeply coloured, austere and powerful when young, and when mature are quintessential St Estèphe clarets. Dame de Montrose is the second wine.
