Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is one of the most famous wine estates in the Bordeaux region and is located on the noble Pauillac terroir alongside Châteaux Latour, Pichon Baron and Pontet Canet.

Since the creation of this fantastic castle in the 16th century, the estate has been passed down from generation to generation through the game of alliances between families until 1920.

The château received its first laurels in 1885 by being integrated as the 5th Grand Cru Classé of the Médoc in the official classification of Bordeaux wines of 1885 in the same way as Château Lynch-Bages.

The Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste vineyard covers 90 hectares of vines and is made up of Cabernet Sauvignon (75%), Merlot (20%) and Cabernet Franc (5%). The domain uses a traditional type of cultivation, using at least phytosanitary products and that the average age of the vines is 40 years.

Today, Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is part of the wine-growing landscape of the Bordeaux elite.

Bordeaux, in the southwest of France, needs little introduction as one of the world's most famous, prestigious and prolific wine regions. The majority of Bordeaux wines (nearly 90 percent of production volume) are the dry, medium- and full-bodied red Bordeaux Blends that established its reputation.

The finest (and most expensive) of these are the wines from the great châteaux of the Haut-Médoc and the Right Bank appellations Saint-Émilion and Pomerol. The former is focused (at the top level) on Cabernet Sauvignon, the latter pair on on Merlot.

The legendary reds are complemented by high-quality white wines based on Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. These range from dry whites to challenge the best from the Burgundy region (Pessac-Léognan is particularly renowned) to the sweet, botrytized nectars of Sauternes.

The aristocrat of the Médoc boasts 75 percent of the region’s First Growths, with Grand Cru Classés representing 84 percent of production. Pauillac's First Growths each have their own unique characteristics: Ch. Lafite Rothschild produces the region’s most aromatically-complex and subtly-flavoured wine, while – with its high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon – Ch. Mouton Rothschild can produce a decadently rich, fleshy and exotic wine.
