"The 2017 Volnay speaks to the focus and drive that make wines from this village so distinctive. Sweet red fruit, chalk and white pepper all grace this pretty and expressive Volnay from Camille Giroud. More than anything else, though, the 2017 is everything a wine at this level should be.” Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Onshore Cellars - ICONIC Producer

With history dating back to 1865, Camille Giroud was a family run operation until the beginning of the 21st century. Historically the family was only buying musts and finished wines, which were cellared for decades. It wasn’t until the 1990’s when Camille Giroud’s grandsons found themselves in charge and decided to break with the family’s long history, and begin to buy grapes, shortly thereafter buying the first plot of vines, in Beaune, in Premier Cru Aux Cras. All this time maintaining a cellar of maturing vintages.

In 2002, Camille Giroud is sold to an American consortium of producers, with 300,000 bottles included in the sale dating back to 1937. Grape purchases are revised and new contracts with vine growers are planned, and winemaking facilities are updated. A modern, more consistent, quality driven wine is produced following the same gentle oak treatment and short racking, so that each cuvée is unique.

The past has now caught up with the present; each year special vintages are sold as part of a collection, as well as the new vintages produced. The course charted for the Maison from its origin remains unchanged, whilst pursuing new projects.
