The 2016 Casamatta is a lean to mid-weight red with a pretty touch of prickly wild berry fruit and fresh acidity on the finish. This is the quintessential food-friendly wine. It shows the subdued intensity and the natural freshness to keep the palate clear of fatty cooking ingredients such as butter, cheese and cream. The blend is 80% Sangiovese, 13% Merlot and 7% Syrah.

Bibi is a self-taught winemaker, and epitomises wine being an art form as he is also a passionate artist with his paintings adorning all the labels of the wine that he produces. Bibi lives and works in his childhood home, Castello di Vincigliata, a Tuscan castle looking down on Firenze.
Unlike a lot of Chianti estates which are surrounded by vines, Bibi started out with just two hectares of vines from his parents, which he farmed organically. The rest of his grapes he has gone on to source from growers with exceptional sites and old vines, working alongside them to produce the best quality fruit possible. This assortment of old vines is located all around Chianti Classico, including 37 acres of vineyards at his property in Fiesole, where he works with his cellar master, Luigi Temperini.

Bibi’s wines unceremoniously gatecrashed the Tuscan wine scene when he launched his first vintage of Testamatta in 2000. This was the birth of one of Italy’s great cult wines, along with his Colore, which are both among the country’s most collectable bottles. These notorious wines have won over fans around the world with their flavour, complexity and elegance.
