In recognition of the reputation and quality of their business, James Chivas and his business partner Charles Stewart are awarded the first of many Royal Warrants by Queen Victoria to supply goods and provisions to the Royal Household.
James and John Chivas pioneer the art of selecting and blending many aged malt and grain whiskies in the Chivas house style of smoothness, richness and harmony of flavours. These traditions were then passed down the generations, and are still carefully guarded today.
Strathisla distillery was built in 1786 on the banks of the river Isla, and today is the oldest and most picturesque distillery in the highlands of Scotland. Chivas Brothers purchased Strathisla in 1950 to safeguard this special Speyside malt for Chivas Regal.
