Château Doisy-Vedrines, located in the prestigious Sauternes region of Bordeaux, is a renowned producer of sweet wines that has been making exceptional wines since the 19th century. The estate has a long and rich history, dating back to the 18th century when it was owned by Jean Jacques Emmanuel Doisy. It was later acquired by the Vedrines family in 1846 and has been in their possession ever since.
The vineyards of Château Doisy-Vedrines cover 27 hectares of the Sauternes appellation, with 26 hectares dedicated to the production of sweet white wines and 1 hectare for dry white wines. The vines are planted on gravelly and sandy soils, known for their excellent drainage and ability to retain heat, which is crucial for the development of Botrytis cinerea, or "noble rot," a key ingredient in the production of Sauternes wines.
The estate is known for its strict adherence to traditional winemaking techniques, with a focus on producing high-quality, handcrafted wines. The grapes are harvested by hand in several stages, as the botrytis fungus affects each individual grape at different times. This meticulous approach ensures that only the finest and healthiest grapes are selected for the wine.
Château Doisy-Vedrines produces three different wines: the Château Doisy-Vedrines Sauternes, the Château Doisy-Vedrines Sec, and the Château Doisy-Vedrines Grande Cuvée. The Sauternes is a blend of 80% Semillon, 15% Sauvignon Blanc, and 5% Muscadelle, and is aged in oak barrels for 18-20 months. This wine is known for its complexity, with rich aromas of honey, apricot, and tropical fruits, and a luscious, lingering finish.
